So I saw the trailer last night and since I know next to nothing about movies I thought I'd ask you all what you  thought.  Is it going to rock, is it gonna suck?  Come on give me your wisdom.

Seeing the trailer it looked like it could go either way.  One positive sign was this comment from Moore;

"was as close as [he] could imagine anyone getting to Watchmen."  (from WikiP)

What ya think?

I'm finally reading the book at the moment (pick it up, it's just as good as everyone says), and rewatching the teaser after the first few chapters gave me a jolt. Visually, director Zach Snyder has clearly nailed it. Whether the content beneath the surface is anywhere near the novel is questionable. Snyder is obviously very skilled technically, but he's a little shallow (see: 300). Some of the shots in the teaser look just a tad melodramatic.

But judging from the other talent that's attached, and the reverence to the source material Snyder seems to have, the film may end up succeeding in spite of him. Provided 20th Century Fox lets the film even be released.

Really?

Everything I've read about Alan Moore's opinion of the movie -- of the fact that they've even made a movie of it -- has been uniformly negative.  Here's the Moore quote I found from Wikipedia:

In January 2008, Alan Moore revealed that he had negotiated to have his name removed from Zack Snyder's film and to have all royalties go to Dave Gibbons. He said that Gibbons had asked him if he was interested in being updated about the film, but the writer declined. Moore said, "I won’t be watching it, obviously. I can at least remain neutral to it as long as they’re taking my name off of it and not playing these silly, ultimately futile games like they were doing last time, which worked out so well for them."

I'll be seeing it, definitely, but part of me will be going specifically to have my low expectations confirmed.  Hopefully they'll surprise me, but the fact that Nite Owl doesn't have a gut is not a good start.

Update: found it.

While Moore believes that David Hayter's screenplay was "as close as I could imagine anyone getting to Watchmen," he asserted he did not intend to see the film if it were made.

I took that to be Moore being Moore and as a reaction to the problems he had with "V", objecting to the concept of the film being made at all as opposed to any particular aspect of it.  I will admit, however, that I want it to be good so I might be reaching.

Agree on the Night Owl comment, I saw an image of him some where and thought 'He's looking very Batmanish.' Had a similar reaction to Silk Specter Jr., very Hollywood aughts sexy as opposed to being sixties retro sexy.

Maybe I'll try to get my expectations down as well. On the other hand if the lawyers get it we might never have the chance to find out.
