Rollins gave a 3 hour performance on the campus of my university tonight, which I attended. It was at turns hilarious, devastating, and motivational. I stuck by after the show, brandishing my Lost Highway DVD, and waited while a sea of students chatted, took pictures, and got items autographed by the approachable performer. By the time I got to him, the tour bus was starting up behind us, and we had to yell a bit. I slipped out the DVD cover, naming it as my favorite "Holy shit is that Henry Rollins?" movie. He was intrigued to see it, and as he scribbled over Bill Pullman's mug, explained how he was cast: Lynch called me up, said, "Henry, I've run out of money. I just have these two little parts--" And I said, "I'm on my way!" So I came down to the set, met Bill and Patricia, and we shot it. Lynch is just as nice as you hope he'd be. I remarked that I hope to meet Lynch one day, and that I was glad to finally meet him. I shook his hand and went on my merry way.

Thanks. Naturally I would've liked a bit more time, but there were 30 people ahead of me. And I thought I was ahead of the game, waiting inside for twenty minutes before someone mentioned he was out by the bus. D'oh.

I would still get buckwild with Henry Rollins. He's almost as sexy as he was way back in the day when his poster adorned my bedroom ceiling in high school. I envy you! He seems like he'd be such a cool person to just rap with.

I've been told that one-on-one he doesn't shut up. And yes, he is potently sexy. And romantic. It comes out in a lot of his poetry. One From None and High Adventure come to mind.

Yes, he has a tendency to go on. The show itself went a bit over three hours. I think we were outside for about an hour while he talked and shook hands.
And he's single, ladies, but you better be prepared to travel at a moment's notice to the most politically volatile places on Earth. Meeting people and understanding them seems his primary goal in life.

I always think of Henry Rollins from when he had that song "Liar" and his Black Flag days back in the dizzle.
"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this." -Dale Cooper

i was quite a fan too in my junior high punk/metal/grunge phase tho to clarify, "liar" was a song by the rollins band, circa 92-93. not black flag, which burned out by the mid to late eighties. unless that is what you meant coolsprings and i just read it wrong. blame it on the debate VP debate im listening to right now, and the jagermeister i had to drink in order to get through it.

I knew Liar was not Black Flag - that's why I mentioned them separately :)

I get the distinct sense that Rollins remains single because he's too much of a free spirit to work on a relationship. And being a genius, his standards have to be unusually high, as he wants an intellectual challenge, too. And someone who makes him laugh.
That being said, I really can't stand Black Flag or Rollins Band.

I'm not a Rollins Band or Black Flag fan either. My favorite punk band back in the day was Minor Threat.

i figured as much. i blame the jager! but Black Flag vs. Minor Threat? i gotta disagree and go with BF. tho i do like some minor threat stuff(fugazi's ok too), something about Black Flag, especially the early rollins stuff still grabs me.

I used to drink that stuff like it was going out of style my freshman year in college (tastes like licorice cough syrup) and nowadays I shudder if it is even at the same table or bar as myself. I don't know how you do it, JFK :)

its actually the only hard liquor i can drink that doesnt give me hangovers or that dehydrated feeling. and i dont really like black licorice either! it is a cough syrup, orginally isnt it? thats what ive heard. yeah for some reason, i can drink plenty of jagermeister and be fine, while a few beers will make me feel like crap and i stop drinking. ah well, at least it got me through the debate without shooting my television.

More power to ya, JFK. Sarah Palin's accent sounds like it is from the movie Fargo.

Why " a couple of roles"? I only recall him doing the guard Henry.

Well, there were two guards in that scene. Maybe they figured out which he was going to be once he got on set. Or I could've just misheard him-- did he have two lines in his scene?

He tells Fred "Make yourself to home, fella" as he is brought in his cell and then "Stick your hands out, chief". In his second scene, at the doctor's, he just replies to the command "Bring him back to his cell!". The third one, when Fred asks for aspirin, he says "What do you want?" and then he tells the other guard "Shit, that wife killer's looking pretty fucked up" and then the other one says "Which one?" and then they laugh.

He's the definition of restless. He was in Denver right before the election and someone from my paper interviewed him. He refused to endorse a candidate (but he's pretty loud about his politics) but he said it was vital we just all got out there and voted, who for wasn't important to him. June 28 07 from the Rollins Show The African-American presidential hopeful, Democrat senator from Illinois, first name, Barack, has a middle name that might get your luggage inspected, Hussein, and a last name, Obama, that pill popper, three-time divorcee and increasingly bizarre radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh observed, rhymes with Osama. Mr. Limbaugh has also characterized Mr. Obama, who is of mixed race, as a "half-rican." Hillary Rodham Clinton draws extreme reactions wherever she goes. But it's Barack Obama who has been called a "rock star" by the press and seems to have a genuine grassroots fan base, but he is not a rock star. North Carolina Democrat and presidential hopeful, John Edwards is intelligent, well spoken, has many fans, but is not a rock star. The Republican senator from Arizona, John McCain, a long time politician and Vietnam war veteran, is in the race for sure and is definitely not a rock star....We should certainly have hopes as well as a whole lot of reasonable demands but you must remember, these people are politicians and will say damn near anything to get you to drive off the lot with that used car, if know what I mean. We should hold all politicians to a very high degree of scrutiny and suspicion, but no, they are not rock stars. They will never be rock stars. There has never been a president like Mick Jagger or Jimi Hendrix so cut it out. And just because this is my pet political topic, he also said on the Alex Jones show that "you'd never be able to disarm America" and a population needs to be armed against a tyrannical government, but "assault weapons" make him nervous and thinks guns could be "delicately regulated so that even Charlton Heston's ghost would be satisfied." (For such a smart guy, I guess he's not aware that there's no such thing as an "assault weapon," but I guess you can't be an expert on everything.)
