MADRID (AFP) — "Surveillance", a thriller by Jennifer Lynch, daughter of legendary filmmaker David Lynch, Saturday won the top prize at the 41st International Film Festival of Catalonia, the organisers announced.

The jury in the Mediterranean resort of Sitges gave the best director award to South Korea's Kim Jee-woon for "The Good, The Bad, The Weird", set in 1930s Manchuria and which also won the prize for best special effects.

Scotland's Brian Cox won the best actor award for his role in the American film "Red", while Semra Turan was named best actress for playing a college student obsessed with kung-fu in the Danish film "Fighter".

"Surveillance" is Lynch's first film since the critically panned and controversial "Boxing Helena" in 1993.

The movie, on which her father was executive producer, stars Bill Pullman and Julia Ormond as FBI agents investigating a massacre.

Hey, I'm pretty sure this is the festival my professor attended this week. I'll ask him if he saw this/what he thought.

Oh, wow. How cool is this?

I'm a reporter/feature writer/movie reviewer for my college's newspaper. The editor came to me to cover the 30th Starz Denver Film Festival. Guess what I see is on the schedule? My new favorite film, Surveillance. IF that's not enough reason for me to be happy, Bill Pullman is accepting the Cassavetes Award in person at the screening! I will totally be there.

There's a VIP party afterward I have a press pass to, as well. He is slated to be the guest of honor there. This is going to be so. freaking. awesome.

I get to give Jen good published press AND meet Fred Madison!
