Don't kill me if this has been discussed before.  (readies baseball bat)

What is your favorite movie (non-Lynch) of all time (trilogies count as one)?

Mine is the Lord of the Rings Trilogy by Peter Jackson.

It was debatable with the original Star Wars Trilogy but I went with LOTR because it felt like it had more well rounded characters, emotion, and beautiful REAL scenery.

What's yours?

That was a favorite of mine my freshman year in college. Great soundtrack, great visuals, great social commentary.

I have a lot of favorite movies, but for me, it is Legend.  That has been my favorite movie since I was about 5.  It's close between that and JAWS, but there's just something about Legend that I love.  Tom Cruise is corny as Jack, but I love the rest. :)  I love the music (Bryan Ferry's "Is Your Love Strong Enough?" is one of my favorite songs of all time)...the characters (Blix! Hard to believe that that's a woman in there!)...and the story is the classic good against evil.

NBK was my favorite at one time.  So, was Taxi Driver, and Pulp Fiction.  I guess a movie that has really stuck with me over the years would be Forrest Gump.

Please don't hate me, or laugh at me, for this but i truly cannot choose between The Big Lebowski and Spirited Away.

I know......

Hopefully not too embarassing for someone in their mid thirties, but:

LotR

If I don't want to spend 4 hours, and depending on my mood:

Usual Suspects

Edward Scissorhands

Friday

edit: how could I forget Big Lebowski!

Rest easy, biohazard.  I am 33 and picked LOTR and I am as cool as they come.

Edward Scissorhands. And no, I was never a fan of the movie because of the "Oh I'm so emo and sad" aspect. It's completely different than that for me.

Are you fucking this up???

Vertigo or 8 1/2 is what I usually say, but now that I think about it I realize I may have slipped into my Lebowski era.

Could be short-lived, though, if Synecdoche, New York stands up to a couple more viewings...

I think we're all living in the Lebowski era right now. Between the books, DVD editions, and current college student popularity, the Dude has really exploded in the public consciousness, man.

But my heart still belongs to Barton Fink. Lebowski I can watch any day of the week, but Fink resonates just that much deeper with me.

To be honest, I have a hard time answering this survey. Not because so many potential films are vying for the top spot, but because I have some wishy-washy feelings about even my most loved movies.

Looks like LOTR and The Big Lebowski are leading so far.  Odd...at least the second one.

Agreed.  The magic of that movie isn't Johnny Depp, but how Tim Burton depicted the "normal" townsfolk.

Edward Scissorhands has an awesome Danny Elfman score.

Yes it does. If I'm not careful, the music alone can make me cry. I'm such a dork.

"Ice Dance" does that to me every time. Thinking about Edward up there all alone...it's snowing! <Blubbers>

The Godfather.  I absolutely adore this movie.  In some odd way, it reminds me of my family but replace Italy with Germany and Sweden...

A movie that I catch myself watching all the time so I guess it could be called a favorite is Harold and Kumar go to White Castle.  I like the poop comedy.

I'm gonna have to go with one that's a childhood fave that I've only seen once in a theater & that's the classic The Wizard of Oz (Bet David Lynch may be with me on this).   Don't think I have to justify this choice. Return to Oz is pretty damn effective too, mainly because it tries to avoid being a sequel, by  hewing closer to the books (excepting the electro-shock bit).

Vertigo is my favourite I think. Just one of those films that you get something new out of every time you watch it.

I really love discovering a new hitchcock movie almost as much as re-watching a classic like Vertigo.  Just watched Strangers on a Train and 39 Steps not too long ago.

They're great films aswell. I've just got a few "classic" Hitchcocks left now I think. I haven't seen The Wrong Man, Jamaica Inn, Sabotage. Do you know if Torn Curtain is worth watching. I know his last films don't get much praise, but I watched Frenzy recently and was quite impressed with it.

I would probably have a different answer for this question every week, but Charlie Kaufman has been on my mind lately because of Synecdoche, NY so I'll go with...

 Being John Malkovich

I'm surprised Lynch isn't more mentioned...and I won't mention him either. Mine has always been Scorsese's TAXI DRIVER, but my personal "unknown" gem that I always like to mention is Victor Nuñez's RUBY IN PARADISE...

I don't think I've seen any of those. More to discover- cool!
