As big of a pain in the ass my state can be sometimes, I must say I really love just exploring all of it. If I had a choice between traveling the world or just traveling my state, I would choose to drive all over this place and check out all the little nooks and crannies. My favorite place to visit here is all up along Hwy 101 starting at about Healdsburg and going right up to Crescent City. Perfect.

My state is nearly too flat and featureless for me. I'm not even sure why I live here.

We do have the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and two big theme parks, though. (Cedar Point and King's Island)

Agreeing with this- don't miss Petaluma area though- nice spot between the shi-shi of Marin and the poo poo of Santa Rosa.

Our recent find this year was Murphys, CA- follow Hwy 4 east all the way into the Sierras. Cool little historical town (ground zero for the southern part of the goldrush), now with a mix of restaurants and lots of wineries.  We were there for their grape-stomp festival and a great concert at the Ironstone winery.

If homestate == where you grew up- outer banks of NC (nags head/kitty hawk area), but in late fall when most of the tourists clear out.

I adore going to the shores of Lake Superior. I grew up going to those shores...and when I Eric and I met we went there a lot, so... Waves...rocks to go through...sand turtles to make... There are lots of really gorgeous parks to visit here in Wisconsin...waterfalls...long winding trails...one of our favorite things to do is just get in the car and go explore them all. We live in Southern Wisconsin, but I am more drawn to the Northern half. Most likely because that is where I grew up--and it is 10 minutes from Minnesota (Hwy 61), which also holds a plethera of our favorite places in the world. The North Shore...oh the parks...Gooseberry Falls...Jay Cooke...Split Rock Lighthouse... Oh...and of course we have a lot of cheese factories...so if cheese that is so fresh it squeaks is your deal, check those out... Wisconsin Dells--Water. Park. Huge.

Murphys is fantastic. A couple of my favorite wineries are up there (Stevenot, Twisted Oak). It was a cute town before the main street became inundated with wineries, shops, and tourists, but even with all that, it's still a great place to visit. The tourists aren't awful, the wineries are lovely, and the shops are fun. And it's just a short hop from Columbia, which was one of my favorite places to visit as a child. :D

Petaluma is lovely. In fact, I drove through there not long ago on my way to Fort Bragg for vacation. It's been a while since I've actually stopped there and chilled for a bit though. I will have to do that this spring when we're in the area for the Barrel Tasting weekend.

Ah the benefits of Ohio...I also live here...I would recommend the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield.  It's a creepy creepy place and also where Shawshank Redemption was filmed.  Other than that, nothing outside of the Hall of Fame and the theme parks.

As for my other home state, Michigan, southwest is awesome.  Very pretty land right on Lake Michigan.  Also, getting to Detroit for a game or 4 is great too.  Northern Michigan and the UP are just beautiful.
