Anybody else love this show?  It was a sometimes wonderful and sometimes heartbreaking realistic depiction of high school in the early 80s (feels like The Wonder Years TV show).  It has an awesome soundtrack from that time period and really takes you back to when you were young again.  It has a lot of actors from those Judd Apatow movies (Knocked Up, Superbad, 40 Year Old Virgin, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, etc.) - Seth Rogen, James Franco (Spiderman), Linda Cardellini (ER, Scooby Doo LOL), and the dude from How I met Your Mother (Jason Something).  What are your thoughts on this moving, yet quickly cancelled gem?

Jason Segal. Damn, that dude has had on-screen relationships with Linda Cardellini, Kristen Bell, and Alyson Hannigan. Can I have his life?

I thought about making this thread several months ago, actually. I discovered the series this summer in preparation for a class in which we studied the series- its mythology, characters, and tone- and wrote our own spec episodes.

F & G does boast a lovely mix of humor and warmth, and since it's TV, it tones down Apatow's tiresome sex n' weed talk. Creator Paul Feig contributes quite a bit to that as well. Here's a great recent article about him.

The show gave me a new respect for James Franco after I witnessed the last Spiderman, and cemented my infatuation with Ms. Cardellini.

And the spec script that I'm currently revising may be the best thing I've ever written.

I know it's not new or anything, but this show is timeless and I would recommend it to ANYONE on here.

Check the track listing episode by episode on wikipedia - freakin' awesome - Styx (Laaaaady!!!!), Rush, Alice Cooper, etc.

The guidance counselor on the show is hilarious.  Reminds me of the hippie teacher on Beavis and Butthead.

It really hits home with the awkward first love moments, getting wasted, pranks, heartbreaks, etc. that make up coming of age.  Some of the geeks on the show (one in the glasses) is so funny.

Try it.  You won't be disappointed.

I was lucky enough to score the Yearbook edition of the DVD set a couple of years back when it was only available through the F&G fan website (and MUCH cheaper than the rerelease coming out next week, I might add). I was only able to half-watch it when it was first on TV because I was working really wonky hours, so it was a no-brainer to pick up the box set, and I've never been disappointed by it. It's depressing that this show couldn't have carried on further. I'm so sick of the crap that gets renewed every year, while the good stuff gets canceled. It's no wonder I spend most of my time watching BBC America these days.

Never heard of the show. 1999 I was a poor college student with no TV.

That was my first thought when I watched the show, knowing that it only lasted one season, but sure enough, like most shows about high school kids it falls apart when college comes up.

So it ended where it should have, with Undeclared working as the other half of the high school/college "diptych".

F&G always seemed like the friendly tv version of River's Edge to me.

Heh. I'll have to mention this take to my screenwriting professor, who was a high school chum of Tim Hunter's.

I love this show. It kinda reminded me of My So-Called Life but less dramatic and precious.
