1950s pinup model Bettie Page dies in LA at 85 59 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES — Bettie Page, a 1950s pinup model who helped set the stage for the 1960s sexual revolution, has died. She was 85.

Her agent Mark Roesler says Page died Thursday night at a Los Angeles hospital after suffering a heart attack nine days ago. He says she never regained consciousness.

Page attracted national attention with magazine photographs of her sensuous figure in bikinis and see-through lingerie that were quickly tacked up on walls across the country. Her photos included a centerfold in the January 1955 issue of then-fledgling Playboy magazine, as well as controversial sadomasochistic poses.

Roesler says Page had been hospitalized for three weeks with pneumonia and was about to be released when she suffered the heart attack Dec. 2.

I want to be remembered as a woman who changed people’s perspectives concerning nudity in its natural form.

A sad day, but it's easy to think about Bettie and smile.

I'm very sad to hear this, she was an incredible woman.  And damn hot too.

My theory by A. Elk, brackets, Miss, brackets. This theory goes as follows and begins now. All brontosauruses are thin at one end, much much thicker in the middle, and then thin again at the far end. That is my theory, it is mine, and it belongs to me, and I own it, and what it is, too.

Here's a painting my sister used to own.  Her husband thought it was too .... something.  Whaddever, he didn't like it on the wall in their screening room.

You be the judge.

They traded it in for a fully clothed version dangling over an office desk.  My sister got custody after the divorce but has always lamented losing this one.

This painting and others from the series were used in a movie where Peter Coyote played the artist.  I think the real artist's name was "Blue" but like others before him, Betty Page was his muse.

Well, she was 85, so I suppose that's a good long run. Just finished watching The Notorious Bettie Page this morning, so she's fresh in my mind (coincidence, didn't know of her passing).  Fans of Gretchen Moll (who plays her in the film) can catch her on TV's Life on Mars (also starring Harvey Keitel & Nuart's boyfriend Michael Imperioli).   R.I.P., sweet Bettie...

Dave Stevens, who died earlier this year had at least a little to do with it.

Does anyone remember the lovely couple that was at the 00'(?) TP Fest (the year I wore a black wig with with bangs, whenever that was)? They said they had a hand in tracking down Bettie after she had disappeared for years.

In any case, they liked my hair and asked if I was a fan. Of course, I said, who isn't? They told me they were on their way to meet up with her after the Fest and asked if they could take a picture of me to show Bettie, because she is tickled that girls emulate her style. I was also doing fetish modeling then, too. So I was, like, 'Hell yeah!' That was pretty exciting for me. Anyone else that was at that Fest remember them?

OSF, you brought a bottle of Redrum that year and Chris Mulkey and was there. I was underage so it was either 99 or 00. She had long brown hair and he had a close-cropped black beard.

You must be referring to Kari & Chris, from northern Va.  I've kept in touch (well, with her anyway) & she's a Myspace pal. Did think about sending her a message re: BP's passing.  She's in a roller derby league & had a daughter named Madchen a few years back. They keep threatening to return... (I don't recall Chris ever having a beard. Kari had a Page cut herself. Are ya sure that description is accurate?)

Yes! Kari and Chris, the Bettie bangs. Maybe he had a 5 o'clock shadow, it was long ago and you had that Redrum. PM with your myspace URL?  I'd like to get in touch again, myself.
