I will start - Pantera - Local Texas Band, Tripping Daisy as well, although a couple great members from each band are gone, BUT! the music from each one still is COOL!!!!

There are a lot of obvious  picks from the East Bay, but I'll say Green Day, Digital Underground, and Metallica.  Also, a less known one- AguaLibre (formerly O-Maya).  They are a big latin hip-hop band in the style of Ozomatli.  Hopefully they'll make it big one day.

 I have tons of favorites, though...Dusty Springfield, I could listen to her sing all day, Dean Martin, The Smiths/Morrissey, New Order, Ryan Adams, Alice in Chains, Journey, Depeche Mode, Elliott Smith, Elvis Costello...I could go on...right now I have Dusty Springfield, Led Zeppelin, Oasis, Violent Femmes and 2 mix CD's in my car player...

One of my best friends is the lead singer in a band called 'The Answer' that are supporting AC/DC on their world tour.

I'm not a big fan of their type of music but they've a huge fanbase at home and are getting great exposure in the US now. They even appeared on Letterman!

well I'll be dang!!!! I saw that band (the answer) on the tele a few weeks ago LetsRoque, not david letterman, it was channel 101 I think. they sounded purty good! I think they were in Austin at some club.

Yeah thats Cormac! I've heard him described as a cross between Robert Plant and Joe Cocker which is pretty high praise. I don't know if you guys have the game 'guitar hero' in the US but they feature on it and the current UK TV advertisement uses their song:

Local bands to me, eh? The Specials, Selector, pretyt much all two-tone bands, haha. Erm.... Bolt Thrower, Napalm Death, Editors, my friend's band Sika Redem, Even Flowers Kill (i did vocals for them for a while, off out for a pint with their bass player tomorrow!), Montana, All Hail The Ruin, Chapters, etc.

Thriving scene here in the Midlands. I've just started a band with a couple of friends but we're unnamed as of yet. Only two practises in too.....

 Yeah, Femmes rock!  I've seen them many times.  All -time favorite Femmes song: "Country Death Song"

 Yeah, it seems like most people outside the midwest, have no idea who they are.  I've must have seen them at least 15 times.  10 of those times were at Summerfest.  Have you ever been to Summerfest? 

Do you have the 3-disc re-master of the Violent Femmes cd?  It has a bunch of cool demos, rarities, and live stuff.  To me, Femmes fans are alot like TP/Lynch fans - there far and few between!!  It seems like the only people I know, who like the same music and movies as me, were people I met online.  So, kudos to having great taste!!

It's a shame they're hanging it up.  At least, I'll have cool memories of their shows, and their music will live on!

Wow. Violent Femmes had a huge following around these parts when I was in college and thereafter. In fact, they're in regular rotation on KWOD, our local "alternative" station. :) I've never gotten to see them live though. I kind of suck at the whole "let's go to a concert!" thing. :P

My favorite local band is VAST. Followed by Cake.
