I just caught some of the one where they had a (male) actor put drugs in the drink of a momentarily absent female actor. Only one or two of the bystanders said anything (a woman- her husband was studiously watching the tv in the bar), although most looked uncomfortable. Pretty sad that so many people were basically like "hey, enjoy your date rape".

Booth I know of the Kitty Genovese case , but it was a local event from my youth, how you are aware of it is curious. You continue to surprise with your arcane knowledge.

Booth did you do a search to locate that case( which does indeed tie in with Reb's subject.)? edit Well I doubt it is well known in Scotland by a young man.

That Kitty Genovese case happened 45 years ago in Queens New York Bub. I was a young kid at the time and it happened near where I lived. For almost anyone else it is so faintly perceptible to the public consciousness to be classed as " Who the hell is Kitty Genovese ? "

A couple weeks ago there was a warning not to use Internet Explorer, so I loaded Firefox and in so doing my long forgotten auto login info was gone. I E danger has been patched and raymondo is gone...gone forever. The difference for raymondo is the R is not capitalized as in Raymond, and the letter o was added to the moniker. Don't really think that is what you meant ?

I believe we studied the Kitty G. case in high school. Yes, to some it's just another case of horrible urban violence, but it's also come to be shorthand for any instance of bystanders who refuse to help someone in distress (basic modern apathy). I thought most learned people would be aware of this one...

I knew who Kitty Genovese was. I was also a kid at the time, growing up within an hours ride from Manhattan. But I thought knowledge of what happened permeated the society--I can remember popular TV dramas doing episodes that mirrored the events. Lots of talk about it. That name became synonymous with a new level of callousness taking over human beings.
