Does anyone on here still watch this show or own all of the DVDs? I was getting an urge to buy the set on DVD because I love the philosophical ramblings and the location.  I also read the original music from the show is not on the DVDs.  Are they worth getting?  Do you still love this show?  Does it stand the test of time?  My hero is Maurice Minnifield.

I still found the DVDs worth getting regardless of the music issues, simply because I love the show. Was damn glad when they stopped putting the little parkas on the DVD sets. Makes it easier to display them on my DVD shelves.

After a while you won't notice that the music from the broadcast version has been replaced with more generic music on the DVDs. But it stood out like a sore thumb for me for a good long while, mainly because the music was an integral part of the series for me. It's just not Chris in the Morning without some of his more unique musical selections. :) Anyway. That's the only reason I kept all my recorded VHS tapes of the series...so I can at least have a musical point of reference. And those are the only reason I still keep a VCR around (in the closet, not hooked up or anything).

Has it stood the test of time? I think so, but then again Cicely never really felt like it belonged in a specific point in time, save for some obvious pop culture references. So it's not like you watch it and the plots feel irrelevant or laughable in this day and age.

Cheapskates ruin everything.

The thought of that episode-closing scene of Cicely's main street without "This Must Be the Place" by Talking Heads overtop fills me with murderous rage.  But hey, fuck it, it's only art!

Back on topic, it's a wonderful show that for me only really started to flatten in direct proportion to the absence of Rob Morrow (through no fault of the other actors, of course).

The opening credit shot with the title logo still gives me a Pavlov's rush like only four or five other titles.

I just didn't know if the original music missing had an effect or not.  I wish they would release The Wonder Years on DVD, but I'm sure they have to get approval on about 7,000 songs.

I have the first two seasons on DVD and love it!  Even with the musical issues...I pop a dvd in whenever I feel a bit down and it always makes me happy...and want to live in a small town in Alaska... :)

I am trying to whittle down my tv on dvd collection but Northern Exposure is definately one that will stay around.  Well...most will stay around...I just can't part with most of my tv on dvd...

My apologies, giospurs!  I didn't notice (shock!) there was already a NE thread.

I want to shake the sh*t out of Shelly the waitress, mostly because she is not Madchen Amick (the ONLY Shelly the waitress.)

* Chris in the Morning - you hot, hot roughneck, you. (He was the show's Audrey Horne and Cooper combined. Maggie was beautiful, but off-puttingly frigid.)

* The misanthropic world famous gourmet chef/ wine connosieur that was hiding out in the woods - the show's Albert, genius! (If only we had met Albert's wife, too... )

* I learned so much about Alaskan native tribal customs - and Jewish traditions- from that show. Love the authenticity (none of that 'Hawk comes from a generic Native tribe that practices Theosophy.')

* Ed- you crazy, undersexed young man. Showing up unannouned where you are least expected/wanted. (This is the show's Lucy/Andy. Adorable, but socially inept.)

I have the soundtracks. Brian Eno - Lay My Love (best song from the whole series!)

i can't believe your statement in the other thread about "i used to think it was a shitty version of TP, but..." because that summed up my opinion, but i haven't given the show a shot in years. maybe i'll man up and try again at some point. i remember liking the one with anthony edwards as a kid

I only remember the episode where the dad from Harry Crumb has bought a Swiss(?) cuckoo clock and it needs a genuine Helvetican to fix it.

Oh, and the love/hate relationship between Maurice and the escaped convict violinist was another fun ongoing plot thread...

Did not like the butch female cop. Creeped me out.

YES!!!! You are the only other person I know who thinks that. :D I loved the scene that was from, I love the song...and I'm kind of a whore for Brian Eno anyway. :) In fact, I'm going to go listen to it right now...

I think my favorite characters from NX are a toss up between Chris, Ed, and Adam. And clean Adam up a bit and I wouldn't mind having a bit of a group orgy with the lot of 'em.

This would be an IDEAL time to discuss the drama between the Northern Exposure Fest and the Twin Peaks Fest.  Where's Jared?!

LOL That was funny. That lady was just kind of abrasive. The guy was very friendly...but the lady? I felt uncomfy talking to her. Jared took her down the right number of pegs. :)

The lady at the gift shop in Roslyn gave Karlos her business card to give to me and Jared so we could let them know when the TP fest would be so they could plan the Moosefest another weekend so we wouldn't override one another. Yeah, because the fan bases cross THAT much that fans would be torn between attending one or the other. I've only known like two people who said "Wish I could attend Moosefest..." while at the TP fest.

It's not a hard choice. Has there even been a Moosefester at the TP Fest? Not that I've ever known of.

That story made Jared my hero.
