I'm in the midst of viewing/reviewing this film. It's really fascinating, and I personally had never heard of the Walker Brothers before.

Here's a trailer:

http://www.thedocumentaryblog.com/index.php/2009/02/12/scott-walker-30th-century-man-picked-up-by-oscilliscope/

Speaking of the devil, Bowie has an exec. producer credit.

What do you know/think about Scott Walker, his band, and/or his sound out of curiosity?

I unironically love him.

His music that is. He's right after Buster in my avatar.

I saw it last summer, even posted about it in the Last movie thread. But no one cared.
Also posted in the new "music you're listening to" thread.

He will have you send it to a po box - you will have to track him down like Christian Slater's character in Pump Up the Volume.

It was the "music you love" thread. And I can still send it to you. Otherwise it will go in my trash with the others.

So the doc was rehashed and cheap but still worth watching?

Yes, I used all those words.
The biographical information was rehashed, since I already knew most of it. The visuals they used for some of the music seemed cheap. And the documentary is worth watching.
QUOTE:It was the "music you love" thread.
No it was the OOOOHHH LA LA!!! More Music Please!!!!! thread.

So this is not a doc geared toward fans, is what you're saying?

And Susan called it "heroin music" when you posted the Jesse video.

Are you going to quote me on this?
The footage of the making of The Drift more than makes up for anything "rehashed".

She sure did.

No, I won't quote "Booth on the TPG"-- unless you have an opinion that you'd like published.  But I appreciate the perspective, and I'll keep my eyes peeled for that segment.

J- YOU posted right below him, crazy.

(Someone else must've mentioned him on that other thread.)

Booth- I'm about halfway through, and he's still in his pop-crooner phase. Interesting story... it must have been more than heroin that inspired the more experimental songs you've mentioned.

Let me know if you want this DVD.

It's a movie geared toward everybody, but who will watch a doc about Scott Walker except his fans?
It's unfortunate but mostly true.

That's the only music he makes now, it would have happened sooner if he hadn't "sold out" to the suits. Or so he says.

No I don't want the DVD.

J, you're more desperate for Booth's zip code than any of us.

EDIT: Well, I'm really glad I was asked to review this. I'm converted and I can't believe I never heard of Scott Walker before.  The doc provides good context. Some of the music they use is really, really cool, and the influence on Eno/Bowie is unmistakable.

In theory, but they never update the damn paper's website. It needs to sit for a night before I polish it. It's just 400 words, but sure.

(Dude, Tilt. The Drift. It's been so long since I've been excited about an artist.)

She has printed out all of your posts and made them into a 1000+ page novel being optioned for publishing.

The Farmer in the City link was indeed posted by me. Didn't think that would show up since the thread was removed.

What did you think of his solo work from the 60s? The Walker Brothers are pretty hit or miss (mostly miss), but those 4 albums are great. The songs he wrote himself anyway.
