The actresses should be consultants to normal women on how to do things.

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this."  -Dale Cooper

some kind of spot-check monitoring system to ensure that drugs aren't freely handed out on set, and that no one appears to have been coerced. any studio where porn is going to be photographed/filmed needs to be registered so that these monitors know where to show up, failure to register your studio warrants a stiff (lol) fine. this system would minimize the cost to the taxpayer, while hopefully putting the fear of being potentially monitored into every producer. i find that complete transparency is the best way to keep people honest

There's a video of Chasey Lain being yelled at and getting "thrown off" the set for being high on Youtube.

Wow, you really are a wit of staggering proportions. (I threw it low for you that time, Booth.)

Fud, that actually sounds like a pretty fair idea.  I read a blog once where somene had compiled clips of people doing lines and smoking joints IN the porno movies.  It seems there could be charges pressed there.

and it's not like i'm anti-drug across the board or anything, i just hate the idea of little suzy who thought she might make it in hollywood having to stoop to porn to pay the bills and a producer is pushing god knows what on her so that she's so out of her head she can do DVDA without screaming

Just trying to be as cute as coolsprings, though I do think there's something homoerotic about contact sports.

I keep wanting to read this book, The Other Hollywood

Traci Lords' biography had a lot to say on the subject. When porn looks like a good alternative to whatever situation a kid's coming from, I just don't know if there's a whole lot of help out there for them.  She started that program for runaway teens, Children of the Night [ http://www.childrenofthenight.org/ ]  I think that's a good place to start, letting them know there are other options.

Jordan's Note - I fixed the link.

Everyone hates that idea.
Unless they get off on it, and then it's probably part of the "scenario".

I think the feds need to investigate the guys who make the Gag Factor movies. That can't be consensual. Those rented well at the shop I managed, too...   Ugh.

This one dude came in asking what the nastiest filth we carried was, and I told him the production company.  Then he asked me out.  I about Maced him.  The industry does bring out the human garbage of the world.

That's a pretty good ice-breaker.

as far as i can tell from this thread that's not true, i think the whole crux of the argument we were having was, "is that scenario exploitation, or is it 'kids will be kids' shenanigans?"

Well, there's a difference between "I did this non-degrading* porno for naughty america to pay my bills", and "I was so desperate I did a couple of 'eat puked up dogfood of a hobo's dick' pornos".

* this is of course a matter of how you view porn

My position wasn't just kids will be kids, but once a person turns 18, they're legally allowed to do porn if they choose. Whether or not there is true coercion in the industry, you'll get differing viewpoints.

Lots of actors only feel guilty in hindsight, and want to blame someone else for their poor decision-making. Yes, at 18, a person only thinks they're grown up enough to think for themselves, but it takes the freedom to make mistakes to learn to make the right choices. And at 18 "Little Suzy" is considered a woman in the eyes of the law, not a girl.

Ethically speaking, yes. We should want to guide younger people who are going to ruin their lives away from harm however we can. I see no problem with trying to make the adult entertainment industry safer.

In the 'it's a small world after all' department one on hand, so to speak, here at the store if you find yourself on lower Queen Anne. $9 plus tax, it is a little dirty but none of the pages are stuck together. I can hold it for you but probably not through July. (Seriously, if you are interested call it $12 with shipping (Media) and minus tax and it would come with a no stalking guarantee. PM to work something out.)

Hmm, a safer porn world strikes me as likely to succeed as the safe needles for junkies program or the safe ultimate fighting compets.

But speaking of taxes!!!!!  Guess what is happening in the already outrageously overtaxed state of California on April Fool's Day?

 Sales tax goes up to:

Los Angeles* 9.250% Los Angeles

We were paying this temporary hiked sales tax of 8.250% after the 1994 earthquake devastated the city.  Yep, it was temporary.  It only lasted until April 1, 2009.

WARNING THE TEXT BELOW CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR EVERY SINGLE THREAD IN THE POLITICS AND CURRENT EVENTS FORUM

me: let's minimize human pain and suffering as much as possible

someone else: no, too much effort, might cost money

me: seriously? i mean i can't think of a better goal for society than trying to help one another

someone else: i dunno personal gain is pretty sweet

me: ugh, welp, your attitude has crushed the effort right out of me *stops posting in that thread*

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am intrigued by your views and would like to receive one of your pamphlets.

Thank you,

Living in the Porn Production Capital of the Western World and being a free market type of person, the simple answer is of course not.

Frankly the only time pornography in the form of DVDs pops up on my radar screen is at the local post office when one of the clerks casually drops a mention of the porn producers suffering from the economic downturn and not having much mail in their PO boxes.

Not even #9,999,999,999 on my list of 10,000,000,000 things to worry about.

Beat the parasites out of the industry with bamboo staves (unless they like it then just give them the bums rush) and give the workers in charge of production, or better yet just give the workers the staves and let them go to town.  Of course that is my solution to just about everything.

hmm sorry this is america we are all self-made millionaires and if you were born into a situation so bad you couldn't "bootstraps" your way our of it, that's still not our fault.

Definitely staves.

Seriously.  I gave up my brief flirtation with Internet porn because almost none of the women depicted seemed to be enjoying themselves.  Call me old fashioned but if I'm having sex with someone and it seems that they aren't enjoying themselves I feel I need to change my tack and, if that does not work, stop and have a discussion.  (Am I repeating myself?  I feel like I've said this before.)

If there was a worker owned co-op like WWW.Wobblyporn.cum (that's the new porn extension, isn't it?) I might be stimulated to take a peak again.  Then again that would require an internet connection in the privacy of my own home so probably not.
