I agree about Bright Eyes and Jamaroqui.  People need to give them a chance!

I found a whole gang of folks over at FriendFeed who are massive underground fans of Jamiroquai. It felt like the end of the "No Rain" music video where the bee girl finds the whole field of freaky bee people to hang with... :D

I'll have to check it out.  Seriously, Jamariquai is just great.  Love everything about them.

It would be seriously amazing if Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen got together and had a love child. The musical potential would be astounding. Though I think my brain would explode from the sheer awesomeness of it all.

Paul McCartney is a Changling.

The Tao is taking the Beatles in order of their talent. I'm not sure who will go next.

I can't stand The Eagles, especially Don Henley.  I'm a big Joe Walsh fan though, esp. James Gang stuff.

The best thing that happened to Dave Mustaine, was getting kicked-out of Metallica.  He was really being held back creativly.  With Megadeth, he truly created a unique sound, and has had a very successful career.

this is a really good one, i have no idea who the sad old farts who like them are. i've literally never met one in person (at least one that would admit to it)

broken clock rule though: "journey of the sorcerer" is a really good song by the eagles, and it's one that has no vocals. this is not a coincidence.

I don't mind the Eagles but I wouldn't get all excited over them. Don't own anything by them and don't intend to.

I think that Journey is a great band. Lynard Skynard, on the other hand, I don't care if I never hear them again. I can't stand Sweet Home Alabama.

Reading through this I didn't see much love for the ladies.  So here are my awesome rock chicks.

Heart from the 70's- Great stuff.  I love Magic Man, Crazy on You, Baracuda, all of it.  Heart from the 80's was a bit cheesy though.

Tori Amos composes some stellar music.  It's very mystical. I have a soft spot for the girl and her piano music.

Sheila E. is definitely an underated drummer Lynchman.

I love L7.  They seem like some bad ass chicks.  The baselines in their songs just  sound gritty or something.  Love it.

I like the Liz Phair that writes song like Fuck and Run, not the Liz Phair that writes songs like Why Can't I Breathe.

Amy Winehouse is a great singer, it's too bad she's such a fucked up poop.

Here's some of the ladies that I dig:

Heart
Dusty Springfield
Suzanne Vega
Bjork
Veruca Salt
Hope Sandoval
Berlin

I don't listen to a lot of female artists but those listed above are the ones that have really struck a cord with me.

Oooh, Hope Sandvol.  I forgot about her.  Mazzy Star is one of my favorites. Her voice is so dreamy.

PJ Harvey

Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth is a rockin' chick.

I always liked Christine McVie more than Stevie Knicks.  I think she has a better voice.

My little thread, grown so big and strong.
The page problem is a bit annoying though.

This thread has officially lost its "unconventional".

So here's Jandek.

He's been putting out a ton of albums since 1978, and what I've heard so far is not easy to listen to, though I've read that a small segment of his work is quite pretty.  He releases them himself, doesn't do interviews, avoids promotion of most sorts, and is as utterly inaccessible as one can imagine.  He's never even officially admitted who he is "in real life", although a strong case had been built by his fanbase for the man whose face appears on many of the album covers.  Basically, think of everything you'd do to try to become a successful and popular musician, and he has moreorless consistently done the opposite.

Then, after 26 years of being the invisible man, he freaked out everyone who knew about him by suddenly doing an unannounced live set at a festival somewhere in Scotland, and since then he's performed another thirty or so sets in the US, UK, and Canada.

"Real Wild", from his first-ever public performance.
