Is the written word a lost art?

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this."  -Dale Cooper

this is just a wildass guess but i bet the percentage of people who read on this board is higher than the average

i just don't feel the need to share what i'm reading as it's usually not something other people are interested in

Reading rots the brain, TV is where it's at.

Higher education with a focus on English lit has killed my most of my recreational reading.

And talking about required reading is sad.  Almost like talking about required fucking.

I do steal time to read things I've chosen, but when I do, it feels like cheating,

Personally, I've never been one for book clubs, (and I don't like to share my mistresses.)

 seriously

i think half the reason i read so many comics* is because it makes it easier to turn off my "omg a have to ANALYZE EVERY WORD" filter

 What? Archie and Jughead?

You read a lot of comic and you collect toys. I can't imagine the kind of crap you go through with older relatives or other people. Or maybe you keep it a secret.

It was a little annoying when I had long hair to be referred to as a girl ( ).

I read a lot. Thing is, most of it is true crime these days, usually about serial killers, so I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea about me but talking about it...I mean, what would you think about a chick who is finishing up a book about a turn of the century killer and started one about Ted Bundy??

Pretty much true crime and autobiography's are all I read.

I have a really good one called: The Chronicle of Crime.  It's filled with actual newspaper articles on criminals, serial killers, and mass murderers from about 1800-present

no it's a visual medium that's pretty valid

it's a well-written and drawn story and deserves the pulitzer it won IMO but frankly it's just a very personal holocaust story. if you've read elie weisel's night or seen schindler's list or experienced some artistic interpretations of the holocaust in general there's not really a WHOLE lot to be gained by forcing yourself through it

My compliments on your choice of comics Nef.  Have you read any of Joe Saccos' stuff?  Powerful use of the medium, sort of like Spiegelman but with humans. You might particularly like PalestineBarefoot Gen by I. Forget is also good if one ever finds oneself getting too happy.

no i haven't read any of those you mentioned, i always have a hard time trying new things because comics are so expensive and libraries tend to carry middling to bad stuff

Libraries seem cheap and crummy, plus I love commerce.

Libraries are great.
And they're even better if you never reread books.
