| QUOTE: It's not like I dislike The Clash that much. I just don't see what's so special about them. On the other hand, I'm a huge Ramones fan, and I know a lot of people on here don't like them and thats cool, too. I've always found , that your either a big fan of one or the other. It's possible to like both, but you can't like them the same. Saying that, as a fan of punk, or whatever you wanna call it, I respect the Clash, I just don't get it. |
oh oh oh so we're also using this thread for "bands you don't get" not just bands that you think are less good than everyone says. gotcha.

I like the Ramones and the Clash, but I think the Clash knew how to play their instruments whereas the Ramones had the goal to just play as fast as they f-ing could. I HATE George Thourogood. How can a person make a whole music career out of being a drunk.

Is he related to Bjourn Bourg?
"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this." -Dale Cooper

Are you just salty at me for being a yankee? Do you know how to spell that drunk's name? I doubt he even does.

Sorry Nefud, I was just trying to defend my opinion. I knew I would run into negative reaction. I do think they are overrated, that's why I listed them in my original post.
Ben: "We've laid in a gala reception for your fair-haired boys tonight. All of Twin Peaks' best and brightest." Jerry: "We're holding it in a phone booth?"

ok i was just clarifying, i thought you were saying it's just a case of you not getting them. like me and nine inch nails. i really don't like them but there's clearly a lot of technical skill there and i wouldn't call them overrated by any means.

Damn Yankees...pretty much anything with Ted Nugent.
Aerosmith as of late. Stuff from back in the day is awesome but their new stuff sucks.
Same with the Rolling Stones.

I can stand Leonard Cohen in moderate doses, and I think he's an above-average songwriter, but I really don't get his god-like status... I wonder if it's one of those had to be there things, where the context of an artist's emergence is what does all the heavy lifting of their cultural weight, regardless of the work itself... I do think he's one of those artists who a pretty high percentage of people like because they feel like they're supposed to, which of course isn't his fault. That wasn't mean enough, so I'll add that I damn well do not understand the popularity of Van Morrison, not one bit.

Well, I was lucky enough to spend about three hours up close watching him perform a couple of months ago and I think the God status is well earned. We were the youngest people there by a good forty years and it seemed many of those attending who were of the right vintage were there because "A friend of mine told me that this Leo Cone was worth seeing... I think he's dying or something?" They seemed to have changed there tune on the way out. People seemed to go in expecting to pay their respects out of obligation and left thoroughly entertained and moved.
You know I never think of him as an artist in context. His music doesn't sound like his time and place to me. It sounds timeless and universal.

Pink Floyd. The Wall was cool, but not the greatest musical (if that's not a total oxymoron) in the world, by any means. Everything else: completely overrated.

Metallica. They should not have done the orchestral comeback, or cut their hair like Soundgarden.
"Whiskey in the Jar" was the only cool thing they did after And Justice For All.
Soundgarden made me think of Pearl Jam. Also overrated. Especially if Vedder is butt bouncing for peace.
