i wouldn't say they're the best ever but top 3, easy. "a night at the opera" is a ridiculously good album. i WILL say however the freddie mercury is my all-time favorite lead vocalist, though. god-like range, both in terms of hitting a wide variety of notes and being able to convey a wide variety of moods. we're lucky he wasn't brought up differently, or his might've been wasted in opera or something ;)

Personally, for me anyway I'd have to say The Doors. Although I know they are an acquired taste for some. Just a great band full stop, Robbie Kreiger was a guitar legend (that riff in Spanish Caravan rocked so much!), Ray Manzarek was superb on the piano/keyboard/organ etc, John Densmore a drumming master...and well Jim Morrison was just an amazing talent, tragic loss of talent at 27! Just the awesome frontman for a band like The Doors, Jim had the look, the voice, the charisma...but a shame he had an addictive personality, in that he dabbled in too many risky drugs, and too much whisky drinking

the doors is my all time favorite as well.

Any particular favourite Doors tracks?

I heard somewhere The Doors were the most overplayed band of the 20th century. If so, I can't complain. I'm a huge fan. I especially love An American Prayer.

I'd also nominate The Talking Heads.

Morphine is my personal all-time, but...

one of my favorite doors songs is peace frog. it's so catchy, i have no idea why it's not on their greatest hits or anything. i also have a big soft spot for horse latitudes, which is weird because i usually hate spoken word type stuff

just because i think they're overrated doesn't mean they aren't REALLY good. hopefully that makes sense.

I love Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar) by the Doors. Most likely its cuz I am a HUGE Bertolt Brecht/Kurt Weill fan (my concentrated studies in undergrad were on Brecht) and they wrote that song.

The Doors aren't bad, but they're definitely overrated.

The Doors are cool, but their musical talent is not on par with other bands and Jim Morrison's lyrics and poetry are drug induced gibberish with no deep meanings.  I still like them though LOL

Agreed.  I think Jim's lyrics leave a lot to be desired.  I remember really getting into them in college, and going to see the movie with my friends.  It's his voice that makes them sound good.  It gives a nice dark mood to the music.  Though I've kinda got sick of them over the years, theres no denying they had many great songs.

When I was a teenager I would have said Bon Jovi.  I was a huge Bon Jovi fan.  Okay, you can stop throwing things at me now.  :)  I really like the Doors and the Beatles.  Is NIN at band or just Trent Reznor?  I also really like Elvis.  I know he isn't a band but I still really like him.  And another person I really like is Leonard Cohen.  I think Leonard Cohen's writings are so good, that it  makes other good stuff look bad.

Led Zeppelin. Pretty awesome all around.

I would second NIN as fitting nicely into a universal all-time category. Who doesn't fucking love Trent?

N.R.B.Q.  Anyone??? Insanely talented musicians and their knowledge of music in general was unbelievable. Their shows combined rock,blues,jazz,avant-garde,pop..well you kinda' get the idea.

"Stairway To Heaven" is best for that activity, surely. I love Zeppelin, but I'm gonna go with The Beatles, they did everything. Although I was nearly pushed to say Pink Floyd.

My heart will always say The Jam, I think Paul Weller is a genius, however my head says The Small Faces, closely followed by The Kinks. Mods rule.......

I have loved The Prodigy since I was 11 years old when their rave album 'experience' was released and I still love their music now. Their sound varies between rave/techno/punk/rock/ambient and they can pull off any of those styles almost as if they invented the genre. They always stayed cool and have never compromised commercially when their tracks have consistently went to the top of the pop charts upon release.

A good barometer is when you look back to your teenage years and you don't cringe thinking about the music you listened to back then.

That also counts for REM (top 5 maybe) but I've never seen them live and they can make me feel melancholy even when i've nothing to be depressed about!

The Prodigy simply make me wanna mosh about and tear sh*t down :)

Did I ever tell you all my story about my days with the Kinks?  No, I don't suppose I did.  Ask me at the festival and I'll give you the short hand version.  Good times! There's a reason our dog is named L-O-L-A.

Soundgarden. Tool. Meshuggah. Mastodon. Queensrÿche. Metallica. Nine Inch Nails. Ministry. Slayer. Kyuss. Neurosis. Dillinger Escape Plan. And 300 other bands I won´t mention, ´cause I´m a bit lazy.

The most disgusting band must be Led Zeppelin. Or U2. Linkin Park. Parts of In Flames. The Hives? And 300 other bands I can´t stand. But I have to try to do it to Zeppelin, listening to Plant´s pussy faggot voice while fucking...I´d laugh.

Or Sade, come on honey I got Sade on stereo u wanna fuck? Or this black guy, what´s his name again, that pedophile.. can´t remember.
