When I was a kid, they were always on the cover of Tiger Beat magazine and every girl in the world wanted them.  I wanted to be them.  Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, Andy Taylor, Roger Taylor.  They had the coolest videos in exotic locales, ultra cool yet nonsensical lyrics, and the adoration of the world.  I would get everything by them.  I had a Wild Boys cassette single with several different mixes of the song, an import tape called Tiger Tiger, and I had the freakin' Into the Arena board game! LOL.  They stand the test of time and I still love them.  I really loved the spinoff band Arcadia's album So Red the Rose.  So many good Duran songs to mention - New Moon on Monday, The Chauffeur, Last Chance on the Stairway, The Seventh Stranger, etc.  I love the Arcadia song The Promise with Sting.  Any other Duranies on here?  They are so far beyond cool it's not even funny.  My favs are from the first album up through Arena and Arcadia.  They went downhill with Notorious and beyond although they still had good stuff during this period.  All.  She. Wants. Is.  Tell me what you like lovers of Duran Duran.  I could listen to them every night for the rest of my life.

My aunt, who is only 8 years older than me and like an older sister, LOVED Duran Duran! Back in the day, that's all she listened to. I developed a fondness for them during this period and still love their work today. I can't choose one song as a favorite because I pretty much love them all.

What about Simple Minds? Does anyone on here love/like/are fond of them as well? I personally think that Promised You a Miracle is their best song.

The Duran boys are definitly one of my guilty pleasures. Growing up, my sister was a fan and had posters of them all over her wall(not to mention:Rick Springfield,Shaun Cassidy, and Scott Baio). By default, I grew up around a lot of their music. I was and still am a sucker for good 80's pop. I think they are very good musicians and songwriters. Unfortunatly, they get lumped in with a lot of the other britsh-synth bands of the 80's, which serves them as an injustice. They also created some of the most memorable music videos in MTV history.

Hey Coolspringsj, did you like the Power Station as well?  Andy Taylor really came into his own with them as well as his solo stuff.  I remember he had that big solo song from that one movie.  I think the song was : Take it Easy

I liked Arcadia a 100 times more because they were synth pop just like Duran.  Power Station was more guitar oriented.  To each his own.

Sorry, totally forgot about this thread.

I saw them when they came around on their big reunion tour back in...was it '03? '04? Still awesome as ever. I was a big Duran Duran fan back in the day. I was going to marry at least one of the Taylors and most likely Simon Le Bon as far as my 8yr old mind was concerned. Favorite song back then was definitely "Wild Boys". I went mental for that song for some reason. And I begged my mom to take me to see A View to a Kill specifically because of the Duran Duran theme song tie-in. (oh, and Grace Jones. I wanted to be her when I was a kid, mostly because she was so badass in Conan the Destroyer) I have all their albums, and I have to say that even with only Simon and Nick carrying the fragmented band through the bulk of the 90's and early 00's, their sound was still very much DD all the way. "Electric Barbarella"? Unmistakably DD.

I also have Arcadia and Power Station stuff, but only in cassette form. Never saw fit to repurchase them in CD format. I probably should, if it's possible.

My favorite album by them is Arena, hands down. And it's funny, I'm so used to the versions of the songs from that album that when I hear the versions from their respective albums, it weirds me out a little. But I'm OK with that. :)

My favorite Duran Duran cover EVER is Sleepthief's version of "The Chauffeur". It's more impactful if you watch the music video for it...

The Chauffeur, Save a Prayer, Come Undone are all beautiful. I still rock those, on occasion.

The rest seems so dated, and aren't really that danceable. The way Simon forces his voice into the higher registers (shout-whining, I guess you could call it, Tears for Fears is guilty of this, too) makes my eardrums unhappy. It's the same vocal style as the whinier emo bands these days, I'm just... ah, shut up and grow a pair of balls.

Though I can still have a laugh at the Rio and Hungry Like the Wolf videos.

One song I never get tired of is Electric Barbarella.  Who is that woman in the video?

Electric Barbarella is awesome.  It literally sounds like it could have been made in the early 80s. "Emotionless and cold as ice, all of the things I like".  I love lines like that.

I love how you can get all of these different mixes of songs like the Night Versions.

I'm thinking about getting the Arena DVD and Sing Blue Silver DVD.

I heart Lonely In Your Nightmare in Rio.

I think I would cream my pants if I saw them in concert.

I even like songs off of Big Thing like Land and Edge of America.

They have a lot of good B-side songs too.

81-85 is the best bar none.

Good songs to listen to in the winter are Lady Ice and Winter Marches On.  Beautiful.
