AIRLINE SECURITY

Tue Mar 10, 11:34 PM ET
Next Transportation Security Administration (TSA) undated handout image shows a composite of 4 separate scans, a female in the left two and a male in the right two, from a whole body scan machine, or millimeter wave machine being used at a security check point at the Salt Lake International Airport in Salt Lake City, Utah. The new machine developed by New York based L3 Communications is in use for the first time today by passengers and takes a whole body scan penetrating clothing. This is a pilot program by the TSA to test the machines in a live setting for the first time at Salt Lake International Airport March 10, 2009. REUTERS/TSA (Transportation Security Administration)/Handout EEK! This may be a worse invasion of privacy than Google Street View! What next? Close circuit TV during the Mile High Club toilet breaks? This will not stand. This must not stand.

Look, when we say no liquids on the plane, we mean it. Prepare to be drained.

Notice how the flammable liquid encrusted toe and fingernails scarcely even show up on these images? Susan

Is that a picture of an alien?
"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this." -Dale Cooper

I've said for a while now they should just make everyone fly naked. Crank the heat up and no problem, right? Of course I might think this because I take the train.

We have one at DIA. Of the 10 lanes, I think 2 have the machine. If you find yourself in one of those lanes, you can opt for a pat down instead. I was in that lane once and started loudly complaining to others around me about how invasive and disgusting it was. At least two women in earshot had no idea what it was and would have gone though it if I hadn't told them about it (ie. TSA can look at naked ladies and children with it. Wow, I feel so much safer.) An agent thought I was trying to start a riot, and he came over and explained to the other gals that they could say "no" to the search.
They say the images are deleted as soon as they're taken, but if you sneak a peek behind the monitor, you can see other people's images as they're being taken.
And even though it's voluntary, most people agree to go though it. Those who've been interviewed that consented to the imaging said they did so because they were afraid if they didn't, it would look suspicious. In other words, they felt they had to.
The Q&A forum here is interesting:
