I thought I read or saw a politician from that state was promoting this idea.

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this."  -Dale Cooper

Yeah, it's the governor, Rick Perry, but he said that "Texans might at some point get so fed up they would want to secede from the union", though he said he sees no reason why Texas should do that.

but 75% of Texans believe it's a bad idea, according to a poll afterwards.

Texas has hair on its chest and is without a doubt the proudest state in our country. I respect that.

texas makes excellent weed and music, which they can fully continue to do after they secede. there is literally nothing we need from that that cannot be accomplished after they fuck off and go found libertopia and make ron paul god-emperor or whatever they want to do

Look at this socialist weakling asking for a handout.

And I thought I was stubborn.

Since Nefud said Texas would be ruled by a god-emperor, I immediately thought of Serpentor as the most qualified candidate.

The air chariot is the deciding factor.

*PS - Nefud, on a totally unrelated note, I watched ST TNG last night the episode Justice.  It is one about the planet of joggers.  What TV sci fi writer approached the producers and said "I believe we should do a story where the crew makes contact with a planet of scantily clad joggers.  Whaddya think?"

It would make for a really big border between the US and Mexico.

With two borders instead of one, wouldn't the Minutemen become Thirtysecondmen?

538 had some interesting thought experiments on Texas succession:

http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2009/04/messing-with-texas.html

(about the slightly more plausible ability for Texas to fracture into multiple states)

http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2009/04/hey-rick-can-we-talk.html

(how the removal of texas would affect the electoral college and congress)
