#4 Bret Easton Ellis adaptation. Is Glamorama next? Lunar Park? In any case, it should be viewing bliss. This book is one of my all-time favorites :D

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11lHeI6fq_0&feature=pyv

Great cast, too: Winona Ryder, Billy Bob Thornton, (a STUNNING)Kim Basinger (with Mickey Rourke, again), Rhys Ifans and Chris Isaak (haven't seen ol' Chet in a movie in a while.)

I'm going tomorrow! Woot!

Like this Imdb user, I'm PISSED that they cut out the vampire subplot for the script. That was the best part! Aarrgh..., Guinivere Turner missed a lot of the dark reality at the heart of American Psycho, too. Poor Bret.

"According to Fox News, Ellis and Jarecki had spent three years working on a script and prepping the film for release, and Jarecki was set to direct. The film was supposed to be "an absurdist, lighthearted, and expansive satire." When producers replaced Jarecki with Australian director Gregor Jordan, the tone of the film strayed away from Ellis and Jarecki's original premise to become something that the cast and writers were embarrassed of. Amid concerns about the budget and about sex and violence (much like that of Ellis' earlier adaptation, American Psycho), the vampire subplot was excised from the movie entirely along with actor Brandon Routh, who played a vampire. Jordan's final movie, which has been critically reviled, became "some terrible, dark meditation" under his interpretation of the script. Jordan also reportedly cut the script down from Ellis' original 150 pages to only 94.[1]

"It's hard to tell now, but it was supposed to be like criminals and vampires and girls and young people. There were things I recognized, and a lot that I missed. But it's the director's version of the script, and that's just how it is." -Bret Easton Ellis on The Informers.

Okay.

Taking the vampires out was the wrong move. This could have had the same tone as American Psycho, making you wonder if the monster was a metaphor for the monsters LA creates: predators, liars, whores, and addicts, whether ridiculously rich or desperately poor .

But no, instead we have The Informers Light, a sequel to Less Than Zero. A(nother) didactic renunciation of 80's excesses. There is a bit of horror, but it's played straight, with none of Ellis' dark comic irony.

I love, however, that the 80's are coming back. This was more of a remake than a period film. If it was released on aged VHS, you'd believe it was the real McCoy. That impressed me.

Stand out performance by Brad Renfro, and Chris Isaak. Amber Heard is naked throughout (let's just say the young lady drinks her milk)-- but it does further the plot. (I won't give away the ending, but it wasn't in the book.)

Are you the female version of Johnny Depp's character from the movie Secret Window?

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this."  -Dale Cooper

Leave what you do in your spare time OUT of this classy conversation.

You know they call corn-on-the-cob, "corn-on-the-cob", but that's how it comes out of the ground. They should just call it corn, and every other type of corn, corn-off-the-cob. It's not like if someone cut off my arm they would call it "Mitch", and then re-attached it, and call it "Mitch-all-together".

Anyway, it sucks when promising art is ruined by suits, that's about all I can contribute here.

It's not a bad flick by any means. Just they should have really gone for broke.

Ellis & Psycho are wildly popular, and recycling art for profit is what Hollywood does best. Twilight is so hot right now, I'm really shocked they ignored that market and cut TV Superman as a club-trawling vampire dude with black eyes and a mouth "like an octopus's rectum." Plus, controversy = box office gold. Did they really think distributors wouldn't touch it with Ellis' name on it? I guess Rules of Attraction didn't do that well, so maybe... idk. I hope those scenes were shot and it makes it to DVD.

Cooped- I'm flattered you thought I was a guy.

"I am not comparing The Informers to The Godfather on any level, but there’s that famous story where Paramount asked Coppola to cut like an hour out of the movie, because they didn’t want to release a three-hour movie. And Coppola did, and showed it to the executive, and it was terrible. It moved very slowly at two hours. And then when he put the other hour back in, it moved very quickly. And that’s all I want to say about The Informers.” -Bret Easton Ellis, AV Club article

Is this thread title referring to the sweeping biopic of Snow?
