After years of waiting, the highly anticipated series, The X-Files, will be making its way on the big screen yet again.  Twentieth Century Fox has finally set a release date for a new motion picture based on the popular award-winning science fiction series that starred FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson).  According to the announcement, the movie is slated to begin filming on December 10 in Vancouver and is expected to hit the theaters on July 25, 2008.

Created and executive produced by Chris Carter, The X-Files is a series broadcast on FOX that aired from 1993 to 2002.  It followed the lives and the adventures of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, two agents who investigate cases that often involved the paranormal and the supernatural.  The award-winning show became such a phenomenon that it gave birth to its first feature film based on the series in 1998 with $187 million in theatrical box office.

Due to the worldwide success of the first movie, plans to make the X-Files sequel instantly emerged but were effectively postponed when Carter brought a 2005 lawsuit against FOX over how the X-Files syndication profits were divided up.  After the suit got settled, production of the sequel started to move forward.  Two months ago, Duchovny announced that both he and Anderson had received their copies of the script, which was helmed by Carter and Frank Spotnitz.

While the untitled movie's storyline is being kept under wraps, it is revealed that the movie is intended to mark a series of X-Files films comparable to the Mission Impossible franchise. But unlike the first film, the second X-Files movie will be a stand-alone plot in the tradition of some of the show's most acclaimed and beloved episodes.  Nevertheless, it will showcase the complicated relationship between Mulder and Scully in unexpected directions.

I also have breaking news.  David Lynch has been given the greenlight to go ahead not with a sequel, but a prequel to his critically acclaimed television series Twin Peaks.   If it is successful, Lynch and company plan on making Twin Peaks into a series of films similar to the Star Trek series.

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this."  -Dale Cooper
