Anybody going to see this?  Have you seen the previews?  It looks high budget and all and I LOVED these action figures when I was a kid, but there are some red flags popping up about the new one.  They changed GI Joe from an American outfit to a global agency ( I guess being the greatest American hero is too politically incorrect).  Also, they changed the look of Cobra Commander because his wardrobe was deemed racist.  WTF?  He was one of the coolest looking characters and that thought never even entered my mind when I was a kid.  Plus the kid from 3rd rock from the Sun is playing him?!?!? WTF? What are your thoughts on Yo Joe and the new movie?

PS- when I was a kid, I used to love playing with Zartan outside because his chest would change colors in the sun.  Good times.

They do have a lot of the characters in it- Destro, Zartan, Baroness, Stormshadow, Snake Eyes, etc.  Maybe in the sequel they will have Tomax and Xamot (evil twins whose names are the same spelled backwards!  Only way to tell them apart is one has a scar on their face. Also needs Dr.  Mindbender and the Crimson Guards.

You young kids and your weird G.I stuff.  In my day Joe was for real with believable characters like 'Mike Power, Atomic Man' and 'Bulletman, the human bullet'.

I had the GI Joe Aircraft Carrier which was about the length of a fully grown adult male alligator.

I was huge into G.I. Joe as a kid, so I'll see the movie no matter what. The trailers I've seen look pretty cool, and they've got Ray Park (Darth Maul from Star Wars) as Snake Eyes! I'm pretty excited.

Remember when they sucked all the cool out of Zartan by giving him a lame-ass sister and brother?

Not only did I have the aircraft carrier, but believe it or not I still have it in storage someplace.

might want to look that up on ebay, you could probably sell it for serious money depending on condition.

i thought the movie sounded ok until i saw this latest trailer-- the focus seems to not be on the goofballs that makes up both sides, but on terrible speed/strength enhancing super-suits worn by the joes. fuck that.

It always made me mad when I was a kid that every time a plane was blown up (either Cobra or the good guys), they always parachuted out before it exploded.  Zero casualties during this epic war.

I also loved the 30 second after school preaching at the end of each episode "don't take candy from a stranger and get in his van, and knowing is half the battle, blah, blah, etc."

Destro was my favorite.  As a kid my vision of the future was we'd all have jetson-style flying cars and destro's wrist rockets.

Also love a show that can successfully market a mobile bridge as a toy.

In elementary school there was a kid with muscular dystrophy who's parents bought him all the gi joe stuff.  It was a good ploy- he was pretty popular.  By the time I got to junior high my neighbor who was younger had GI Joes.  I was less interested in playing with them, although I did talk him into blowing them up with fireworks.

I might see this on DVD like i did Transformers...

Is Cobretti going to make a cameo in this film?

I saw the previews of this as well and I think it looks like it is going to suck.  Which is sad, because I am a big fan of the cartoon.  I think the storyline with Stormshadow and Snake Eyes would have been a great movie.

If they really wanted to do a GREAT G.I. Joe movie, they would base it on the Larry Hama-scripted Snake-Eyes/Storm Shadow origin tale from the old Marvel Comics' series. Now that would be amazing.
