"The EV-DO-to-LTE transition is a phenomenon that Ericsson CTO and Senior Vice President Hakan Eriksson said is inevitable. He said at the conference that by 2014, 90 percent of data traffic will run on LTE. Ten percent will run on EV-DO, while WiMAX will garner a mere 1 percent. "
I'm in the market for a laptop and was wondering if you techies had any advice about what to look for as far as connectivity. This EV-DO thing sounded pretty neat!
Do any of you have experience with it?
Or is just plain ol' WiFi good enough?

p.s. A cellular customer service rep I just talked to said she wasn't aware of any plans to phase out EV-DO, but that if that did happen, customers would be updated with whatever new software they switched to.

I've only seen it associated with notebooks. The idea is you can pick up Internet anywhere you can get a cell signal.
Dell 9 & 10 and Sony Vaio P & TT were the ones I was looking at.

This thread is reminding me of my Billy Zane thread, ha.
In case anyone is following, even Google, the only prob with the Evdo is that cellular services out a 5GB soft cap on data usage. This is so customers still buy at home wireless plans, too, and just use this technology for on the go. It's 10 cents per minute or kb after. This generally makes people think its useless, and therefore its about to be extinct.
I'm still undecided. I'm typing this from a Whole Foods parking lot (on my totally rad Dell Mini 9)which is both convenient and strange. I also ordered a card. Will I use it? I know you're on the edges of your seats. ...
