So is there really a Europe still? Frankly, this is stunning. To what can we attribute this... downturn in popular culture or had I just not been paying attention?

Yeah, I remember watching all those HORRIBLE videos from a couple years ago as the compet was ongoing. I remember a girl from Israel too. There was a Slavik rapper. Oh what a kick but still...
Is the whole thing done in earnest???? Wasn't this the event that the Prince of Monaco (that spiffy tastemaker) had organized? Susan

Yes, that´s the song, Susan. I know, I know. A lot of the songs are absolutely horrible -that´s part of it. What you remember about a song is often the show itself (the guy in the tight silver pants, the electric glitter suit, the drag queen etc) and that´s also a part of it. Most of the time, a great song wins afterall. Quite a few artists got known through the ESC. Abba, Celine Dion, Cliff Richard (I think. He sang the song "Congratulations" but didn´t win.). A lot of artists gets really big in their own country after participating. Sweden and Greece has a few icons. All in all, whatever you think of the songs, I think it´s a great tradition that unites us once a year. The read about it´s history on wikipedia (sorry, can´t copy/paste).

Oh, I know it's not Norway, but since I've already commented previously about my disappointment vis a vis our li'l American Idol season conclusion, I thought I'd share this . Looks like someone agrees with me. This will not stand! Not in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! Hilarious, but I feel his pain.
