"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this."  -Dale Cooper

I wish I could remember the exact quote but it's a Hollywood thing about the actor who doesn't mind his own setbacks and failures so much as he hates his friend's success.

And then there's this old song which kinda says it all...

I think I liked you better
When you were sick
I liked you better
When you were weak and pathetic
Now that you're healthy
You're just kind of a dick
I liked you better
Sick

I think I liked you better
When you were poor
Getting your face slammed in the door
Now that you're rich
You're just kind of a whore
I liked you better
PoorNostalgia
Nostalgia
Guess it's just
Nostalgia

I think I liked you better
When you were dumb
When your emotions were under my thumb
When you wore a crown of thorns
And you left a trail of crumbs
I liked you better
Dumb

Nostalgia
Nostalgia
Guess it's just
Nostalgia

I must be doing something wrong if said individuals were crazier than I am when I was younger and didn't make better grades and weren't any smarter.

I'm at a point in my life, where my resentments for others are at a minimum.  All jealousy does is make ya more of a prick, ya know?  Jealousy over money would be easy for me, since I don't have a lot of it.  Ever since I got "sober" , I don't apreciate that quality in others, and makes me feel ugly, when I start to feel that way.  Good luck to 'em if they have a lot, wish I did!

QUOTE:I'm not talking about mansions, bling, rims, etc.  I just mean a part of me says I could have done things a little differently (or still can) and become successful as well.  I'm more mad at myself than anything.  I don't think it is too odd of a reaction, but I forgot the majority of people on here are perfect.

I hear what your saying.  Yeah, I wish i would have stayed in school, and done a lot of things different in my life.  I just can't dwell on that stuff, because it's so depressing.  All I can do now, is just work on being a better human being, I'm anything but perfect, and not sure I would want to be.  I can totally get mad at myself, but I have to snap out of it quickly, or I become miserable.  Besides the only perfect person on here is Nefud, anyway!

It's very simple, the reason that there are "haves and have nots" in the present is because there were "dids and did nots" in the past. So get some extra strength bootstraps on and get to it.

YOU CAAAN DOOOO IT!

No matter how much better off someone seems, they have a whole slew of problems you probably wouldn't trade yours for.

The Zen philosophy is that less is more, right? Define your own success and be content what you do have, material or otherwise.

I don't like to think that i get jealous but it does do my head in!! Especailly when those that don't help themselves in life by not Working or them that just generally expect everything and get it all, that's what grates on me the most especially when i work hard, do everything by the book and have loads of dreams and ambition but get no where quick!!!

This was blogged about on BoingBoing but it's a catalogue of what being poor means in day to day life.

I identify with a lot of it:
