And are either of them Chastity Bono??? Aka "Chaz." She is about to have her breasts removed and a penis added, a surgical procedure (or mutilation) sometime referred to as an addadictomy. Will she then be a MALE? Or a MAN? Is there a difference? And will her DNA change as a result? Or does the science of DNA not matter in this regard of determining whosa whatsit after parts are removed and others are added or reconstructed? Susan

A woman is about to have her imperfections fixed with plastic surgery. Will she then be beautiful? Will her DNA change? Will a guy who procreated with her be able to sue for genetic fraud when she pops out an ugly baby?

have to agree with ya Nef! especialy when we're talkin' 'bout celebritys children. I'm sure I will think of Chastity, the same way I always have - not at all.

1. Maybe more so. Maybe less so. Possibly indistinguishable to all but the woman. I've seen the latter many times.
2. No. She'll still be female. But her genes won't change to "beautiful" genes or the more wide-open eyes, smaller straighter nose, no propensity for hips with excess fat, or large, dome-like breast genes. But I'll bet you knew that. ; )
3. With the current trends of litigation, I would not be the least bit surprised if there are teams of lawyers willing to take the dad's case to trial. And with the way some juries of peers reason, I would be equally unsurprised when they reach a verdict of liability. In fact I'll bet there have already been such suits. Had a feeling it would be difficult to take a stand on so-called "sex change" operations. The fact that it is a celebrity's child is irrelevant. Non-celebrity children who have these surgeries do not customarily have news anchors including the news in their daily reports. With straight faces yet. We've come a long way since Christina and Renee. Some may call it progress/ive.

I thought of an earlier discussion from the board when I saw that piece, er, story, yesterday. After the operation, (s)he will now be able to lawfully marry a woman. And women take to becoming men much more easily than men to women, perhaps because of all the additional gender role trappings of being feminine. Deciding to take hormones to get breasts is also a lot less permanent than deciding to get your breasts lopped off in surgery.
The operative words in defining what men and women are would be sex vs. gender.
I treat pre- and post- op transsexuals as the gender they prefer to be. They understand the confusion, and don't mind if you ask.
I also humor transvestites that way (and wouldnt let them in the arcade booths at the adult video store if they were in drag, as women weren't allowed back there.)
Unless I'm having intercourse with someone, I don't care what's down below. Gender is more important than sex.
