Tim Burton.  Love his stuff.  Edward Scissorhands is my favorite movie of all time.  Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride are awesome.  I love how he does creepy and cheerful at the same time.

Don't forget Sweeney Todd!!  His best work!

Besides Lynch, my favorites are Tarantino and Scorsese.

Apart from Lynch, Terry Gilliam and Tarantino are probably my best bets.

I do like a bit of Tim Burton, but not as much as I did when I was a 15 year old goth.

Kurosawa or Kubrick. It would be Welles, but I can't give it to a guy who completed so few films.

Burton was the first name I thought of, but in truth, I think Hitchcock is my favorite.  His movies and his television shows were genius.  He explored so many elements of terror, from animals to voyeurism, murder, mama's boys, fear of heights, being out in the open with nowhere to hide.  And he was humorous to boot.

I think somewhere inside I will always be a 15 year old goth. :)

It is hard to choose one, because I like so many for different reasons.  Here are some of the directors I like: John Ford, Alfred Hitchcock, Quentin Tarantino, Stephen Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Oliver Stone, Stanley Kubrick.  This is based off just the directing.  I like each of the directors above for different reasons.

Oh my, it's impossible for me to pick just one, or a few.  What came to my mind were 18 favorites. I did put stars by 7 :  Almodovar, Altman, Kubrick, Coen Bros., P.T. Anderson, Jane Campion, Jim Jarmusch.

Also Wes Anderson, Darren Aronofsky, Bertolucci, Cameron Crowe, Jonathan Demme, Atom Egoyan, Terry Gilliam, Philip Kaufman, David O. Russell, Tom Tykwer.

I really really like Scorsese, but his subject matter kills it for me 9/10 of the time. More Aviators and Last Temptations, please. Less stupid gangster/crime/guido bullshit.

I have probably watched Edward Scissorhands a hundred times and I still cry when she says "Hold me" and he says "I can't".

My room is decorated in Nightmare stuff.  It's so funny how people keep buying you themed gifts once they find out you like something.  But I love all of it so keep it coming friends and family.

Exactly.  Ditto Tarantino--although I love Jackie Brown.

My crying point is when he says "Goodbye" and she kisses him and says "I love you." The look on his face just puts me in tears through the end of the film.

That movie is so underrated, it's scary. It was the 2nd film I ever reviewed for my college paper and I couldn't tell you how many letters we got from people saying I should be fired for saying that such a shit film was so awesome. I pretty much knew right then and there that I was going to get stuck reviewing crappy mainstream crowdpleasers. (and I did...I actually had to review the fucking Jerky Boys movie. UGH)

Another reason Ed Wood is better than Burton's other movies is because there's no oompah doot boing with a bit of child choir score.

I'm guessing all those letters came from OSF. Oh the movie was awesome? It literally inspired awe in you?

Tim Burton.  It always seems to be his movies I reference whenever I'm asked for favourite films, certainly more so than other directors.  Ed Wood is a criminally under-rated film.

My theory by A. Elk, brackets, Miss, brackets. This theory goes as follows and begins now. All brontosauruses are thin at one end, much much thicker in the middle, and then thin again at the far end. That is my theory, it is mine, and it belongs to me, and I own it, and what it is, too.

I'd probably have to say Hitchcock. But Burton, Wes Anderson, Kubrick, and Cronenberg are close. I really like Richard Linklater too.

Lotta Burton love on here. I realized one day that I'd seen every one of his feature films (not including the short "Frankenweenie"). Not one them is in my top ten, though. I'd like to own Ed Wood one of these days. Also, Nightmare was directed by Henry Selick. People tend to forget that.

But the answer is Christopher Nolan, for me. He has yet to make a bad movie. They've all been solid to great.

And the Coen Brothers are the other ones. Even their bad films have some entertainment value / visual style.

Lynch I tend to name as my favorite artist, since he's explored so many different mediums, often to great success. Also I don't know enough about other people 'cause I'm a philistine.

Aside from Lynch: Tarantino, Oliver Stone, Kevin Smith, Tim Burton, Spielberg, John Carpenter, Robert Rodriguez, Guillermo Del Toro and the George Lucas who made "American Grafitti" and the first "Star Wars". Not the current incarnation.

BTW, my Edward Scissorhands action figure is displayed prominently on my computer desk.
