Thought I'd get a little megathread going here. As the summer winds down, the promotional push for the Fall movie slate begins. Here's a place where we can discuss and share anticipated films from established and not-so-established auteurs.

SEPTEMBER 18

A rising star in the agricultural industry suddenly turns whistleblower in hopes of gaining a lucrative promotion and becoming a hero of the common people, inadvertently revealing his penchant for helping himself to the corporate coffers and ultimately threatening to derail the very investigation he helped to launch.

Steven Soderbergh's newest comedy boasts an impressive cast and a subdued style. Trailer is here.

OCTOBER 2nd

A Serious Man is the story of an ordinary man’s search for clarity in a universe where Jefferson Airplane is on the radio and “F-Troop” is on TV. Struggling for equilibrium, Larry seeks advice from three different rabbis. Can anyone help him cope with his afflictions and become a righteous person – a mensch – a serious man?

What's the next logical step for Joel and Ethan Coen after a broad comedy featuring a loaded cast of Oscar nominees/winners? A bone-dry, '60s period piece dramedy where the biggest name is Richard Kind. Promoted perfectly with a idiosyncratic trailer.

FEBRUARY 2nd, 2010

In 1954, U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels is investigating the disappearance of a murderess who escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane and is presumed to be hiding on the remote Shutter Island.

Based on the 2003 novel by Dennis Lehane, Shutter Island is Martin Scorsese's latest film, a psychological horror movie in the vein of Cape Fear. You can catch the trailer here to check out the intense mood and gorgeous imagery, but be warned - if you're sensitive to SPOILERS, this trailer both sets up and makes all-too obvious what may be the big twist of the film. But then Marty has never been a Shyamalan type, so maybe it doesn't matter.

Thanks for all that in one place, LogicHat!  All directors on my will-see list.  Especially the Coen's. Loved the rhythm section in that trailer.  And  Ben Kingsley in a Scorsese picture. Looking forward to that.  I blow hot and cold on Soderbergh, and since Team America, it's hard for me to take Matt Damon seriously...

I was only interested in Shutter Island and first watched the trailer about two months ago. I have seen six of his twenty films and have enjoyed all of them. Can't wait to see this, and thanks for posting this great thread.
