From one of my favorite critics, a pretty dismal review this morning.  This was going to be the movie that got us out of our house and into a theater to see it.  May still do so but I think Kenneth Turan hits the nail on the head when he says Quentin T is more appealing than his recent films.  I always love watching him riff but...

Oh well, see what you all think.  Who's going to see it this week?

No, shit Spinoza..

"Also getting in the way is Tarantino's inevitable self-indulgence, his willingess to please himself by choosing movie moments over genuine emotion..."

My guess is Tarantino suffers from Aspergers syndrome.

Why is the name of the movie not spelled correctly?  Is it a homage to Pet Sematary?

See it now!  Very funny!  I never knew that Brad Pitt was such a comedian.

He was hilarious in True Romance and Snatch!!!

More like a homage to Southern people pronouncing and even spelling it that way (Brad Pitt's character, at least). Anyways, I enjoyed it a lot. It was a hit in my theater, which was very evident when everyone gave it a standing ovation at the end. The opening scene was a perfect tension-builder, and I'm both surprised and glad that they left all that violence in it. Can't wait to have it on DVD.

 from wikipedia:

Spelling

To date, there has been little explanation of the title spelling. In English, the presumed correct spelling would be "Inglorious Bastards," without the extra u in Inglourious and with an a instead of an e in Basterds. When asked, Tarantino would not explain the u and said, "But the 'Basterds'? That's just the way you say it: Basterds."[56] He commented on The Late Show with David Letterman that "Inglourious Basterds" is the "Tarantino way of spelling it."[57] In the film itself, the words are briefly shown in their misspelled form on Aldo's rifle, implying he is barely-literate.

That's the first thing I thought when I saw that scanned script.

The spelling of the title has made my skin crawl every single time I've seen it in print. Ouch.

I've really wanted to see this because I had high hopes that perhaps Tarantino would finally prove that he isn't the flash-in-the-pan "c'mon, all the cool kids like him"-writer/director he has appeared to be since the turn of the century. It sounds like I might want to wait until it hits DVD (hellooooo Amazon Unboxed) or even HBO. Bummer.

Perhaps the alternate spelling is to distinguish it from the original film it is based on. And since it's set in France, the "Inglourious" is likely an homage to the European site.  Saw it Sunday, the third in a mini-marathon (District 9 & Cold Souls being 1 & 2) & loved it. Nothing I say will convince the doubters. See it if you want a good time. Otherwise, do whatever ya gots ta do!!!

thought it was pretty good. not as good as the kill bills in my opinion but good none the less. once again the females are great, and the "jew hunter" too. Brad Pitt was ok. movie was fun and suspensful, but didn't make alot of sense, not that that is a deal breaker.
