Patrick Swayze died today after a long battle with cancer. He was 57.

Swayze was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in January 2008. His publicist says he died with his family at his side.

He was the star of such movies as "Ghost," "Dirty Dancing," and "Road House." Swayze was named People's Sexiest Man Alive in 1991.

Fighting pancreatic cancer for 20 months is pretty damn impressive.

Damn. I watched the "Unchained Melody" scene from Ghost in a film music class this morning.

It's gonna be a bittersweet Patrick Swayze Christmas this year.

I only saw him in Donnie Darko, in which he was great. 57 is such a young age. RIP, Pat.

"Cry to Me" came on my mp3 shuffle on the drive from work this evening.

I posted this deleted scene elsewhere, but in remembrance, I will post it again!

I agree. I was wondering myself how long he'd have.

I used to look up to him as a kid, wanting to be just like his character in Dirty Dancing! Haha. Plus he always seemed like a lovely guy in interviews i saw, real down to earth and courteous.

He'll probably be seshing it on wine with Keith Floyd by now. I reckon they'd have seen each other on the way up!

A heartbreaking loss.  He was widely considered to be a class act all around.  Can't recall anyone having a negative word to say about Patrick Swayze over the years.  I'm very sorry this terrible disease befell him and for the loss to his family and friends.

I love that song...and that scene in the movie.....it makes my palms itch.

He was such a beautiful man and he had the perfect mix of "bad boy" and "sensitive" in his movies.

In every interview I saw he always seemed gracious and genuinely appreciative of his success....he will be sorely missed.

So terribly sad--he always had a smile on his face, and even in pictures in the past two years, that smile always reaches his eyes.

Going to cry even harder when watching his movies, particularly, "Ghost"...

One of my fave moments in that movie is when he's singing "Henry the 8th" super loud and Whoopi going, "STOP IT! STOP IT!"

Been listening to the Dirty Dancing soundtrack periodically the past few days--such memories those songs bring back. One suave dancer, that's for sure.

Charisma to the core, that man.

RIP, Patrick

It truly is a shame!  Though, I didn't care for a lot of his movies, he seemed like a real genuine guy.

Favorite Swayze movies - The Outsiders, Donnie Darko and Roadhouse

Have to admit to being a big fan of Ghost and Point Break. And Donnie Darko goes without saying.

I hate to see anyone go out that way. He seemed like a good guy, too.
