Thoughts opinions on the Letterman affair/extortion, etc?

I caught a teaser on the local news and ended up staying awake to see the show.  Pretty surreal- I can imagine the audience being really confused.  Can't believe he did the monologue first, and then went to the desk to tell the story.  And poor Woody Harrelson- he's just there to plug a zombie movie and all of a sudden he's got to follow some confessional...

Not sure I feel really strongly about this- its just bizarre.   Letterman isn't that funny, but is somehow charming.  Screwing around with the people who work for you is not the worst thing in the world, but shows real lack of restraint.  Nothing sinister has come out yet- so not reaching the level of creepy a la Bob Barker, and somehow seeing this happen in showbusiness is less shocking than if it were, say, a professor and student or President of the United States and White-house Intern.  Letterman wasn't married, but had what must be a common-law wife if they were together for so many years.

Hippocritical for making jokes about other people having affairs?  Maybe a bit, but that's his job.  I also have a feeling that once this blows over he may very well poke as much fun at himself as he does at anyone else.

How dumb is the dude from 48 hours who allegedly was writing a screenplay and book about Letterman's affairs?
