I have swum in the ocean all my life, well, not constantly. You know what i mean.

One beautiful afternoon I was swimming in the Atlantic off shore out in the Hamptons about 180 yards off shore on a medium calm day. I started to swim towards shore and noticed that I was not gaining on the shore. I swam harder and harder and still no advance. After 5 10 minutes of this I panicked and really began swimming for all I was worth. No gain on the shore ! I was tired and felt that I wouldn't make it. I said to myself 'This is it".  This was an isolated beach with no lifeguards and no other people around except my friends who were way up shore out of earshot dozing comfortably in the golden sun.

I thought 'So this is how it ends. I die drowning'. I am gonna fing drown! In a true panick I continued, exhausted and finally made progress and made it to shore. I walked/stumbled as the adrenalin wore off and reached our blankets and just collapsed silently. I couldn't talk -nobody said anything to me. After 10-15 minutes I caught my breath and told them what had happened. No one seemed too concerned. It was like huh no kidding.

Now, i had heard of rip currents, but it didn't click in out in the water. That evening on the news was a spot  and warning about the dangerous strong rip tides that were occurring on the South shore of Long island !

Anyway , I truly thought i was a gonner that afternoon. It is a frigtening, scary feeling. Anyone else have an incident where you thought you were down for the count- game over?

QUOTE:

On this week's episode of Libertarian Friends:
The gang stands watching their friend struggle against the current, refusing to come to his aid as that would be a kind of welfare. They come to the conclusion that if he drowns he lacks the strength of character that is needed to be self-sufficient and wasn't a very good friend to begin with.

ha ha- I read Booth's comment, and the theme music to Friends popped into my head "I'll be there for you..."

Nothing as long and protracted as fighting a rip-tide, but I've had a couple of close calls while driving- once flipped my car hitting some black ice, and once got in a pretty scary front-end collision that almost pushed my car off a 30' embankment.  Walked away from both of those unscathed.

The time I was most nervous was probably on a river rafting trip.  We had two rafts and my friend Steve had a kayak.  He was a superb kayaker, but somehow wasn't paying attention and fell out of his kayak right before a super-scary part of the river that you had to portage around.  luckily someone on shore (not part of our group) who had just gotten out of the river jumped back in their kayak and hauled him to shore literally just a few feet from the rapids.  The rest of us were pretty shaken seeing him almost bite it.  It didn't help when we tried to put in on the far side of the rapids and somehow missed the correct path and ended up getting our raft wedged vertically between two boulders in a very strong current.  Luckily, again someone else managed to get on the rocks and haul us out.  It was pretty scary though-there was literally no way we could have gotten out on our own and the raft was tipping more and more, and probably would have dumped us out and held us under.  It was pretty chaotic with all the noise and flailing paddles and such so I don't remember having any epiphanies.

When I was 4 I jumped into the deep end of the pool while neither one of my parents were paying attention.  It felt like I was under water forever, but it is hard to tell.

When I was 16, I was wading across a flooded creek and was swept away by the current and into some deep water.  It was very hard to swim to the shore, especially with all those wet clothes.  I thought for sure that I was going to drown and all my friends were just standing there.  No one was within reach.  And we were all drunk.

Driving home late one night, I had a semi turn onto the 2 lane highway 30 feet in front of me.  I had to hit the shoulder going about 60 mph and steer around the truck and back onto the road and not hit the ditch.  Somehow this was accomplished and without me dying of a heart attack.  My hands shook for 45 minutes until I got home.

Nope.  I'm hoping to experience only one of those followed quickly by the real deal.  Or, as Woody Allen said, "I'm not afraid of death.  I just don't want to be there when it happens."

Yeah, an almost drowning thing in my late teens, then had my throat razor-slashed while driving a cab when I was 24, then a stupid drinking game thing where I swallowed a bottle cap & a friend had to Heimlich me. Nothing recently (unless you count dying onstage while doing standup) & no body leaving/go towards the light nonsense...

Now wait Suave. Did your friend use the Heimlich maneuver or the Heineken maneuver ?

Yeah, in my rip tide event I only wished I could have 'left my body' and it was definitely a go towards the shore not 'the light'.

A couple of weeks ago I got home from grocery shopping and grabbed a bag of cracklings (some Danish chips thingy). Then suddenly one of the cracklings got stuck in my throat and it swelled and I was like panicking. I couldn't breath and couldn't find anything to drink. It got to the point where you see black dots and you are going to faint. I finally reached the water tap and got some water, but it was in a nick of time! I was pretty sure I was going to die and nobody would know because I live alone.

Afterwards I ate the rest of the cracklings and felt really sorry for myself...

My best friend was almost killed on Guy Fawkes' night by a gang of thugs.  We were by the bonfire when they came up to us, and for no reason they started pushing and shoving me and swearing at me.  Then when I laughed at them (shouldn't have done that) they started punching me.  My friend tried to get them off me, but then they got him on the ground and started stamping on his head and face repeatedly.  He got up and shouted to a security guard to help him, but the guard told him to "fuck off and go home."  Then he collapsed unconscious, and some medics came and took him to the hospital.  I went after giving a statement to the police (who never found them), but it was a scary night for me.  I thought he was gonna die and I was panicking.

This one`s a real Shocker...

It was a Waking Nightmare or/and the worst night of my life most definetley...

It had been going on by now for maybe 4 or 6 months and frankly, It just did my head in and all I really wanted was to be left alone to my fet,my porn and my punk music (in peace), but the Scum weren`t having any of it...

Whether I liked it or not, I was/had been made the link man between them and us and they were absolutely  determined to give me Hell or `stick with me` whether I liked it or not...

(it`s bad is this)

They had been banging on about lung cancer for some time now, supposing I would then `act fearful or afraid or something`... but what really brought the subject up in the beginning was my little speech on a plague like run of adverts which hit the UK television circuit off and on 3-7 years ago,

They were ghastly, deadly, nightmarish little jabs in the dark by those angry and bitter and dying right now in your face with cancer...

I don`t really know what good they did, but anyway the worst and surely the King of all of these Ghastly adverts featured a man that just happened to be my doppleganger/shadow-self or eternal enemy...He was dying of course of lung cancer and all I could think was (to look at him)...I couldn`t imagine anything worse ...in this Universe or any other !!!

 Curiously, I also recall thinking/wondering,querying...`Where are you`

(even though I knew he was at home dying)

So anyway,he`s a giant in the Spirit Worls,is this Guy-and he`s quality too (pure),

He`s a Tank, a Giant...a Beast...But anyway...he and I kind of `took off` together astrally and went all over everything in the Universe with an all new and unexpected combining of energies with Spectacular results(for a while at least anyway)

These 2 opposing energies which stands and stays each...on seperate sides of the road are two equally powerful and yet opposite energy types(life and Death) - which for the esoterically enlightened-when joined creates a 3rd energy...which is both-and yet neither...neutral and all-powerful..It was the joining of 2 energies which created a delightful and unexpected result/s...for a while...

Anyway, the Scum put Lung Cancer into me at last one night...(because I`d had some speed)

These weren`t minor `astral bugs` which I could just shake off...all the Big-hitters of Heabven and muscles were by now in on this and me ???????

(I`m suspecting jealousy due to his closeness to his wife and younger sister Mythologically)But yes,the Scum gave me lung cancer for just 1 night...I thought I was dying...I went and jumped into the Sea with weights fastened around me twice(to make sure)...that`s how bad it was...

I recall staggering back up the beach half-dead,by then...freezing,soaking and  gasping for air believing I was on the way out with that...Anyway I returned home and called for an ambulance, but funnily enough once I was in the Ambulance,it began to wear off.....I realized then(or suspected0 that it was probably some kind of bizzare Cult ceremony thing that was going on,something I would just have to endure....

I spent the night with heroin like influences warming my body and mind, roaming the streets of Hornsea and peoples gardens/sheds(anywhere dark/low) in hiding....believing (on top of all else0 that there was an Evil Hit Squad or Crew likely hanging about my house that would chop me up into little pieces if I were to go back to it(my home)

Anyway, I woke up the next morning with wet feet and legs, but alive...in some old womans garden shed...it was daylight now and I seemed to be alright...I got up then and walked out into the Sunshine and up the road home to my old home then...15 Seahaven !!!!

It was mainly Thoth and Maats doing apparantly...

They are kind of like my Superiors...

That`s Thoth...

Hermes Thoth and Maat-Lady of the Judgement Hall !!!!!

(as she likes to be addressed/referred to as)

Her and Thoth are as high as it goes, I think !!!!

(in this Universe or any other)

Well, last week I got hit by my friend's car.  It wasn't near death but it sure did suck!  It hurt really bad.  I am okay.  I just have to keep my leg up.  Anyway, years ago I got in a bad car crash.  I was hit on the side of the car, then ran into a pole bounced off the pole and hit on the other side of the car.  The cops thought I would be dead or hurt really bad.  I would not call it near death because of what I felt.  I felt two arms wrap around me and I felt total peace.  I walked out of the car with just a small bruise on my thigh even though the whole side of the car was caved in.

not me my twin sis, about 3 years ago. Langford cell disease, hope I spelled that right, rare disease, the doctors did tests, sent the tests to Arizona, it took 3 weeks to find out what was wrong with her, she was comatose, and yes the docs would have pulled the plug, but she came to, thank gosh!

I wasn't near death, but years ago, me and my twin sis was headin to her house, we were hit from a drunk driver, I could see the headlights in slow motion, the truck hit my side, my knees buckled hittin the dashboard, my sis her stomache hit the steerin wheel and her head hit the rearview miirror, last thing I know, we were pulled out from the car.

tooken to the nearest hospital. my sis lost her baby, I had to get stitches above my forehead, I could just hear the scrubbing wire scrubs I'll bet cause the sound to get rid of the glass and  the doctor was tellin jokes, about the green m & m tellin me to keep awake, next 2 weeks very bruised bodies. it hurt sooo bad!!! had to be carried around,
