This is a thread where hopefully we can all share our experiences in dating, good or bad...

My first experience with a member of the opposite sex came when I was 17.  At that point I felt I was ready to go out with a girl.  But one day while having a barbecue on the beach with my family, everything just went wrong.  I was left in charge of cooking the steaks while my mother and brother went to check out an ice-cream place nearby.  While I was sitting, I noticed an extremely pretty blonde girl sitting in a deckchair not far from me, about 20 yards.  She had a small dog, and a smile on her face, and she looked about 14.  I was immediately attracted to her, and sat nervously for a few minutes, before deciding to make a move.  I picked up a raw steak from one of the packets and sneaked over to her.  She had her eyes closed behind stylish sunglasses.  I slapped the steak down on her belly and she opened her pretty eyes wide.  Then I said "with a babe this hot, this steak's gonna cook in no time."  And what did she do?  She got up, threw the steak off her, got her things and just scarpered away, completely unappreciative of the gesture.  That was one experience that just made me feel angry and embittered towards the opposite sex for a while...

*clears throat* So, uh. Yeah. I can see this thread has already started off with a truckload of win.

I once dated a guy who apparently slept with half the school while we were dating. Oh, and I was putting out, so it's not like he was desperate for a piece. The worst part was that him and I were seniors and he was cheating on me with freshmen and 8th graders. Srsly. I was getting disrespected by 13yr olds. FAIL.

On the plus side, right now I'm actually having a positive dating experience. It's relaxed, comfortable, no pressure to be super-duper awesome all the time, and it makes me smile on a daily basis. That hasn't happened in years. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop because srsly, this is my world we're talking about. Nothing truly good ever happens in my world...there's always something truly atrocious lurking just out of sight. Watch, he'll turn out to be a raging polygamist or a closet Republican.   j/k

Wow, that sucks pretty hard.  I don't blame him for liking young girls though, I'm something of a Polanski when it comes to the opposite sex myself.  He wasn't by any chance a 4chan regular was he?

Heh, no. This was long before 4chan existed.  Back in the analog days when you had to snark on someone to their face rather than through lolcats and failboats.

I don't mind age gaps and May-December romances as we get to the end of or out of our teens. At that point they're no big deal. But an 18yr old dating a 13yr old? That's kind of skeevy. The 13yr old is still learning how to wear a tampon properly.

yeah 18-13 is a bit much.  14's my minimum, and only if they're physically mature.  my best friend goes out with a 14 year old (he's 17), and introduced her to pot and sexual intimacy, and if anything it's helped her hugely.  she used to be picked on, now she's more youthful and confident.  but yeah, it would be freaky to imagine a 18 year old going out with someone of Elle Fanning stature *shudder*

Somehow, and seemingly in the last few months, I seem to have turned into one of those women that blokes want to have as a "friend with benefits", rather than having to put the effort into dating me.

Recently (and for the first time ever in my life) I did ask out a bloke for a drink.  He said he'd get back to me.  When did it become so hard to just out-and-out say, "Thanks for the offer but you're not my type"?

Sheesh.  I'm off to buy a cubic shedload of batteries, s'all I'm saying.

Is there are an age where single guys are either only on the prowl for a wife, or paranoid any girl they date is trying to BE their wife? **Unless they are married already, in which case dating sounds attractive again.**
