Gimme a ticket for an aeroplane... they were playing Big Star on KEXP this morning & mentioned his passing.  Haven't heard any details yet. Was surprised he was only 59, but he was a teen in The Box Tops. R.I.P.

Guess it was a heart attack AND just before there was supposed to be a Big Star reunion at SXSW (dunno if Jon Auer & Ken Stringfellow were in the lineup). Sad... but there should be loads o' folk doin' tributes!!

He was a great musician. From the Box Tops to Big Star to his solo work, he's had a massie effect on music.

Fresh Air with Terry Gross on NPR remembered Alex Chilton today.  Great pieces from 1991 and 2000 interviews with Chilton here:

He was refreshingly humble and happy with the small niche of the music industry he carved out for himself post-Boxtops.  Rest in peace.

"I'm talking about seeing beyond fear, Roger.  About looking at the world with love."

That '70s Show should've used the original Big Star version on In The Street for their theme instead of the Cheap Trick cover. Ditto for the P.U.S.A.s cover of Ian Hunter's Cleveland Rocks for The Drew Carey Show (Ian's still puttin' out great stuff at age 70!!!).
