I'd be more in the market for a 3-D B.B. (Blackboard) like Mr. Whoopie used to whip out to school Tennessee & Chumley!!!

If they find a way of doing it without the glasses I'd definitely be going for one. But it really is a pain wearing two pairs of glasses. Once the light gets through two pairs of glass to your eyes some of the magic has gone.

One of the TV makers, I believe has already figured out how to make 3D without the glasses but the cost is too much. We talked about upgrading to 3D a couple of months ago, but ended up just getting a new TV and wait for the price on the 3Ds to go down. They are siting around 3000-4000 -- not to mention your BD player will also need to be upgraded (unless you have a PS3).
Keep in mind that if you have a Samsung DLP, your TV may already be 3D capable - just need to hook a computer up to it and buy the 3D kit.

After I saw Coraline in 3-D, it took me several minutes to shake off the alternate reality and re-enter this "reality". I remember thinking, "this technology is potentially dangerous to young, susceptible minds." Then I started hearing about something being called post-Avatar depression syndrome. Here are some interesting quotes from one report: "Cameron's special effects masterpiece is very lifelike, and the 3-D performance capture and CGI effects essentially allow the viewer to enter the alien world of Pandora for the movie's 2 1/2 hour running time, which only lends to the separation anxiety some individuals experience when they depart the movie theater. 'Virtual life is not real life and it never will be but this is the pinnacle of what we can build in a virtual presentation so far,' said Dr. Stephan Quentzel....It has taken the best of our technology to create this virtual world and real life will never be as utopian as it seems onscreen. It makes real life seem more imperfect.'" So, no, I won't be getting a 3-D TV, and I suspect there's potential for trouble ahead as this technology advances. Here's the link to the Avatar blues article: http://www.cnn.com/2010/SHOWBIZ/Movies/01/11/avatar.movie.blues/index.html

I've got the blues even contemplating that ANYONE could have the blues over Avatar. Suicide? I'm as blue as Joni Mitchell once was. Susan

I totally hear you. But I don't think the depression is linked to the story. I think it only seems that way. What I felt, (after seeing Coraline, and only at home with flimsy glasses) was akin to the inevitable sinking feeling when the (fill in psychedelic of choice) wears off. When you are back in this world and have lost connection with that "other" world. It feels to me that this technology is well on its way to becoming drug-like, and these depressions are the first indications. I remember hearing a story of a young guy who had been locked in a room with some video game for days until his mother finally broke the door down to find him dead. It seems that mental instability and certain technologies are a dangerous mix.

Waiting for the inevitable South Park where James Cameron is depicted as a Timothy Leary analogue.
