(Kind of...)  Member Since  12/21/2005  Posts:5862  View Profile  Send PM Post Reply | Quote Just saw the excellent new film Mao's Last Dancer from Bruce Beresford (Breaker Morant, Driving Miss Daisy). It concerns the true story of a young Chinese ballet star who defected to the U.S. around 1980. Joan Chen plays his mother & Kyle MacLachlan is the Texas immigration attorney that negotiates the controversial defection.  Chen gets to show several contrasting colors in her role, & though Kyle's performance is fine, there's nothing in his portrayal that a thousand other actors couldn't've handled. Glad he's working, but wish he could get juicier parts.
