I loved Julia Stiles' line when Dexter shows her the photo of the motivational speaker with Masuka: "Well, the guy on the right is clearly a freak"

 What do people think about ths show's fifth season so far?

I was contemplating giving up on Dexter after the premiere. The best part of the fourth season, in John Lithgow, was gone and I wasn't sure where this was all going. But I think Lumen has really been a breath of fresh air to the show and the last couple of episodes have won me over. I don't even mind the Quinn/Deb stuff! Although I still couldn't give a shit about LaGuerta/Angel's storyline...

I'm just glad they chose not to have that actress from season two return to grill Dexter's ass over Rita's untimely demise (the mother-in-law).

Dex's bio dad was identified in season 1 by DNA testing as the man who provided him with a blood transfusion when he was a teenager. He was killed by Brian Moser, the Ice Truck Killer and Dex's brother. Dexter inherited his house.
I'm not familiar with the books. Anyway, I thought you were joking.

Perhaps I'll give that first Dexter novel a chance.

Wow, what a huge disappointment. Apart from the premiere of season 5 (which was almost like an epilogue to season 4) I've been really impressed with this season of Dexter but the finale was completely ruined by the showrunners cowardly insistence that things remain at the status quo. Three MAJOR gripes:

1. They've spent the whole season teasing Dexter and Lumen's burgeoning relationship and then she leaves in the last episode for no other reason than I assume they couldn't renew Julia Stiles' contract. It would have been far more satisfying to just kill her off than for her to make that ridiculous speech to Dexter that 'her dark passenger has left her'.

2. So Quinn is just let off the hook just because he has blood on his shoe that doesn't belong to Liddy. What about all the other evidence! And how has Quinn just forgotten all the evidence that links Dexter to being a serial killer?!

3. And what a cop-out not having Deb look behind the curtain and realise Dex is the killer

 Pathetic.

I've just finished revisiting seasons 1 to 3 back to back and they were so much FUN. For me that fun was already missing from season 4, good though it was.

Season 5 was definitely flawed. Viewing it for the third time now and trying to put it into perspective. 

I can't wait for season 6 to begin.

 

I'm currently watching season 4 of Six Feet Under. I thought 3 was annoyingly different and somewhat weak. 4 Got off to a great start.
