Hi,

I've posted a blog on Stanley Kubrick, which I thought you might be interested in.

Nice, Exy!  Love the choice of images too.  Sigh.  The photographer's eye is evident in each of them.  I miss Kubrick.

A great addition.

Although, how can you not have seen all of Barry Lyndon...did you have a pain in your gulliver or lose your glassies? I know its generally viewed as 'slow', but personally I love its graceful pace.

Visually Kubricks most accomplished (imo)...the interior candlelight shots are pure art.

I am holidng off watching "Barry Lyndon" in full until I can watch it in hidef, so that's either when SKY HD decide to show it or the bluray gets released.

Yes...a perfectly acceptable reason Exy. ;-)

The best I've managed so far is watching a HDTV 720p version...which, tbh already looks incredible.  I hope they get the Blu Ray out soon though.

I have to admit I'm a little confused as to why Warner Bros. have not yet released Lyndon on Bluray whilst pretty much all the other Kubrick titles that comprised the box set have been released (apart from Lolita).

It could be that there have been remastering issues etc, but I'm not sure.

Anyway...

I did come across news that Warner will be releasing Barry Lyndon BD in 2011, along with Lolita...apparently a Blu-Ray box set of all titles is also going to be made available.

So it does sound like, that it is at least coming soon...

A new remastering of Clockwork Orange like they did after the first failed Full Metal Jacket blu-ray would be welcome. The way the film was shot might have consequences for any high definition release, but I'm hopefull there is room for improvement.

The way Eyes Wide Shut looks on blu-ray has also caused controversy, but no improvement in image quality can make me forget about Body Thetans.

Yes...I have EWS on Blu-ray and I think it looks superb as it is, the improved blu ray image is subtle, but appreciable.  I understand the controversy though...some folk seem to be under the impression that every blu-ray image should look pristine and be devoid of any texture/softness etc. I've found that the 'interior' shots look (as you'd expect) stunning.  Not that many would agree, though.

But more to the point...what sort of imagery would people expect of a film that is based upon Schnitzler's Traumnovelle (Dream Story)...file them under 'philistines', I say???

I maybe be biased though...as I think EWS is simply a marvelous film, in all respects. It bears many similarities to Barry Lyndon imo.

I got as far as buying 2001 on blu-ray then read there was a box set in the offing. I bought most of Kubrick's films on DVD twice and would prefer to wait for the (alleged) box set than keep buying the same films over and over again.

I really like Eyes Wide Shut. There seems to be a lot of snobbery surrounding it.

Barry Lyndon....Blu Ray.

I have my copy...it is a must.  Aspect Ratio aside...this is a very impressive transfer.

A worthy candidate for the most beautiful film ever made.  I look forward to your review Exy.
