Saw it a couple of days ago, great performances by Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis (hot, hot, hot), Barbara Hershey (Piper Laurie Carrie ish) and a great small part by Winona Ryder. I've enjoyed all of Aronofsky's movies and he is the only other director, besides David Lynch that I will see his movies asap.

I have never watched this show but it seems to be interesting by knowing the cast of this show. Can you tell me more about this show??

We saw Black Swan last week. Very interesting movie. I couldn't help but compare some of the movie with FWWM at times - esp the ending. it was an interesting movie.

I'm in total agreement with you about Aronofsky's movies.  I only see one movie a year in a theater, and Black Swan was it for this year. (Although it was a tough decision, since the Coen brothers' True Grit, and David O. Russell's The Fighter were also playing at the mega-theater I went to...but ballet won out over western or boxing).  The Fountain is still my favorite Aronofsky, but Black Swan was incredible, thanks mainly to Natalie Portman's amazing performance.  A fascinating look at the struggle to accept our dark side.

Rigpa - I am in total agreement with the fountain as my favorite movie, I love that movie and it always "centers" me when I need it, you could call Black Swan a female in trouble movie. I really want to see it a second time, much like mulholland drive to better seperate what is happening and when. I think people who post here should check it out.

Ye, we saw it a few weeks ago as part of my birthday treats :)  Thoroughly enjoyed it.  Jordan, I know what you mean about comparing with FWWM, I noticed that too, especially on the parts where Natalie Portman's character is haunted by the laughter and doppelgangers in the hall of mirrors.  I actually found some of that creepy/hard to watch!  But it was great all teh same. :)

I was very strongly impressed with the film but as time went on and I started analysing, I thought it was slightly overdone. Not meaning any big criticism, I still think the movie is very good and very interesting but I think it's exploiting the viewers emotions too much. Too many effects, both special effects (the things with her skin, feet etc.) and horror effects (the moment when she came back home and all the talking pictures... too much). Of course, it is very impressing. But I am not so fond of a film SCREAMING it in my ear because I believe I am not deaf and I can understand how serious, tragic or shocking something is also without screaming ;)

All in all the film is recommendable, Natalie did a great great job and of course this guy who wrote the score - Czajkowski or something, gotta pay closer attention to his next films, he's excellent!

Tangentially, I have to note that Mila Kunis gets better looking with age. I have seen her in a TV series 'That 70s Show' and she was cute looking but hardly a beauty. Whatever you have been doing the last 5 or 10 years Mila, keep it up !

Yeah, the constant clippings of nails annoyed me/made me feel a bit sick.  She seemed very skinny too, as I've heard many ballet dancers are, and a lot have eating disorders.  Didn't like the way her toes/feet were contantly cracking either.  I'm a trampolinist and I don't do that, even though part of my warm up exercises involve walking on my tiptoes

I didn't see The Black Swan. I just saw Kunis on the Perez Hilton site. But, yeah Maddy, I think these actresses should all eat more. She could use about 10 pounds or 1 stone as you UKers say? You can walk on your tiptoes ? or you mean on the ball of your foot. Tip toes sounds impossible to me :)

Actresses should eat more that's right. But in this case it was part of their job that they made themselves so skinny. I've heard Arronofsky speaking of how he was getting more and more concerned about Natalie because she sank so deep into her role. But I found it really impressing - I mean, it's like I have always heard about the great ones: Robert Deniro or Dustin Hoffmann or Marlon Brando preparing very physically for their parts, actually changing their bodies to act the character, but I didn't think actors do it anymore.

Right,  that is related to the post war 'method acting' and/or Stanislavski approach.  I check out the Hollywood scene via websites - for the current scene baby, and while I'd be a 'Stage Door Johnny' type  I can still understand Film as art, film business, the landing light that Hwood is, character arcs, well now wait, I never bought that character arc thing. ho hum at best.

Now referring to Maddy's takes above. That toenail clipping sound/visual is a real offputter to me. No matter who is doing the clips! I have been able to catch a random Jersey Shore, I mean Good Fellas, er Soprannos episode on TV after sereral years of avoiding the series.  Anyway, this latter day Sophia Lorenesque circa mid 1950s character is dealing with T in Italy in this instant episode. She clips her toenails!! EEwww, gag me !! That precise type scene skieves --makes NO difference who is the clipper, or is it clippee? I am so Happy I didn't see that scene in Black Swan. It was Mila, right? not Natalie. Please confirm.

Mila Kunis may well have gained back some body weight by the time I saw her pictures on Perez Hilton or where ever. That would be a good thing. This Kunis kid appears to have has a delicate bone structure for starters. Eat up Sweety. I propose one reason Kunis looks more beautiful of late is because she doesn't play a young, facially animated clown. This Mila has some kinda matured chops allaround.

If I compared "Black Swan" to any Lynch movie it would be "Inland Empire".  I think the characters of Nikki Grace and Nina Sayers have similar issues coping with identity and split personality.
