Captain Beefheart (Don Van Vliet) died this morning at 69, from complications of multiple sclerosis. Here's a link to a short film featuring Don & his observations (Some YoYo Stuff) by Anton Corbijn, shot in 1993. (DL makes an appearance early in the film) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEKkRNq3OBQ

I guess there goes a Magic Band (with the Captain) reunion!!! On Keith Richards' birthday, too. I'm going to a tribute show tonight where a multitude of musicians will play the Electric Ladyland album. I'll be thinking of Don (who I saw twice: opening for Jethro Tull & with Zappa)...

Saturday I went to the annual double album tribute night to benefit Musicares at Seattle's Tractor Tavern. This year was the classic Electric Ladyland (Jimi's sister Janey was even there). A great night, but it WAS Keith Richards' birthday, so they could've done Exile (they likely have before). When they said they didn't know what next year's selection would be, someone appropriately yelled out :"TROUT MASK REPLICA!" Yeah, we'll see...
