I'd have to say what's always kept me coming back to Twin Peaks is the atmosphere, the dread and the mystery. Those are the three things I adore and are handled so well in the first season and so/so in the second. The moments of where the viewer is alone in the woods with Balamenti's score always get to me. At this point, I have to say I am a bigger fan of FWWM than I am of the series. The photography in FWWM is gorgeous. I still think it's Lynch's most beautiful film. Anyhoo... -Req

every lynch movie, with the exception of elephant man and dune, is about what a dying person is dreaming as their brain shuts down. that's my opinion, anyway.

i'm surprised you like lost highway so much, it's always felt like a rough draft of mulholland drive to me.

Lost Highway is better than Mulholland Drive in every way.

for the sake of fun, could you tell me more about why you prefer lost highway? i think MD is a lot more...cryptic with its "the main character is dying and imagining things differently!" theme, which is more fun to me. plus, i like the soundtrack a lot more. i'm starting to think i need to give lost highway another chance, now. did it ever come out in a watchable edition? all i have is a vhs

LH looks a whole lot better, not a big fan of the soundtrack, the mood is better. And those are about the only reasons I watch a Lynch movie.
Universal came out with a DVD that looks like it should even though DVDbeaver thinks otherwise.

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this." -Dale Cooper

What keeps me coming back to Twin Peaks is because I can see new things when I watch it. Other shows does not do that. I can watch another show one or two times and that is it. But with Twin Peaks, I can notice things I did not see before. Also the Diary of Laura Palmer really spoke to me at one time. Twin Peaks also speaks to me in a Spiritual way. I do love coffee and pie and I like to eat pie while watching the show. I didn't like coffee until I was in my twenties and involved in street ministry. The reason why is because we would be up all hours of the night and ended up in a coffee house somewhere. So, I began to really enjoy the different kinds of coffee.

I love Twin Peaks because it genuinely frightens me, and I like that feeling of hiding behind a cushion, scared shitless. Think it took me about 10 minutes to brave walking up the stairs after first seeing Ronette's dream. There was just something about seeing the series for the first time, I got a massive feeling of excitement and anticipation whilst watching it. Had to watch episodes in bigger chunks the further I got into the series. And I've noticed that I get a bit pre-occupied with what everyone's wearing. Haaa. Coop wasn't the same in that horrible checked shirt, keep my eye open for Audrey power-suits, and now I think BOB whenever I see someone breaking the 'denim rule'. But there are a billion things that make me love Peaks, most obviously not as daft as that one.

she sent him earplugs. so either she exists, or cooper really is bonkers |
That could very well be a possibility. However, I'm assuming it's his secretary. That Diane "chick" is bugging the holy hell outta me too.

Of course I would be obsessed with every single plotline, character or idea in the show, but (laugh if you want) I always was specially amused when Catherine appeared onscreen. Her character was just so magnetic...lol (not that I like middle-aged women or anything) but Laurie just put into her spite and class into her that it was always a pleasure to find out what her next move would be.

I love Twin Peaks and have loved it consistently for years because it is so rare to find something so genuine on the telly. I know it went off the boil in the middle, but still...when you look at what else is on, it does shine. I find it genuinely scary - my fiance is a horror buff and nothing he has shown me by Argento, Wes Craven or anyone else has terrified me half as much as the woods, the crackling, menacing electricity, the terror in Maddy's face and the way Leland / Bob dances round with her dying body, the emptyness in Laura's face in FWWM as she says "...and the angels won't help you, because they've all gone away", the distorted sound effects of the Black Lodge spirits, the pink room scene, the car scene where Gerrard is yelling Its him, it;s your father...ohhhhhh so scary! And I find it genuinely funny and touching too. Nothing I have watched since makes me feel as warm and familiar, as if I know the characters from my own dreams. I love the way the log lady touches Laura's face in her "tender boughs of innocence" scene, the way a sadness descends over the Roadhouse when Maddy is being killed - am i right in thinking Lynch directed that episode? I can "feel" it's his direction, that scene is amazing, the sadness reaches out and touches me every time and infuses me with sadness too. And the happy, fun parts, especially anything with Albert! Considering the series dealt with such dark and mysterious issues, I find it very warm
