One thing has always confused me about the film - why does Henry, floating in space/nothingness find another man(half naked) and then OFFER HIM SOME OF HIS SPERM?

Later, we see this half naked man again: Henry is going to hug pancake girl(chubby cheeks) and she turns into that half naked man!  Henry shrinks away, confused.

CONFUSED BY HIS FEELINGS MORE LIKE.

The relationship with Mary X seems FAR from amicable, don't you think. No real signs of love.

And the baby they have: a monster. You could almost see this as a warning; IF A GAY MAN DENIES HIS TRUE FEELINGS AND SIRES A BABY...IT WILL BE A MONSTER!

Or to shift this to a recongised modern framework; IT WILL BE GAY ITSELF!

Er, yeah, does that really sound like David Lynch? Or has he just managed to disguise his rampant homophobia in his subsequent works...

As DL so dislikes explaining his films, one can assume he wants them to be a Rorschach test for an individual, so if the viewer sees it that way, that's THEIR unique interpretation.  Being a straight man, I see it as the fear of fatherhood, the more accepted theory.

Bitch, the gays have better things to do than run around sharing sperm with men floating in space and siring monster babies.

DL doesn't explain his films because he thinks the authorial intention will over-ride everyone else's interpretations. So yeah, we should all make up our own interpretations. But if someone decides to post an ridiculous and offensive interpretation then there's no reason we can't have a go at them for it.

I hate this increasingly prevalent thinking that we have to respect everyone's opinions. Freedom of speech means that Albie has a right to post his crackpot theories, and I have a right to call him a fucking moron for what he says.

That is the one and only explanation for Eraserhead.  Get used to it or eat a shrine of carrot-filled mother and father social education sessions.

Also:
1. Not explaining something adds to the mystery.
2. There's no authorial "intent" behind most of his movies.

What's the big gay problem here? Funny, I get attacked for suggesting Lynch's film contains a gay undercurrent and yet Lynch himself has never had any nice gay characters. JUST lesbians, which he uses for purely jacking off purposes. The guy is a big old closet homo-probe.

We should ALL use our time and energy to find yet more gay subtexts in his childishly populated films(yes, his characters are CHILDISH) just as we should all reinterpret the macho rap lyrics of rap songs into all manner of gayness.

"Oh! Help me, I'm being haunted by a lamp!"

Get over it!

True, but I was just making the point that the idea isn't that everyone's interpretations are just as valid as everyone else's.

In another thread, we managed to successfully ascertain that Twin Peaks is as gay as a candle.

IF anyone.. it sounds like  albie  is the prominent homophobe in this thread.  that may just be because i disagree with his original and subsequent posts, but also because of his attitude and sense of supreme righteousness.  i don't like you already albie.  sorry.

oh and yea sometimes there are sexual undertones in cinema.  surprise!

Admittedly, this has nothing to do with your posts (I did try but there's so many of them and they've all started to look the same) but can I just say fuck off I'm a star? That is all.
