QUOTE:By the way, Booth, I agree about Blue Velvet being Lynch's best - but I remember you used to be the one to say that Lost Highway was your favourite? Why the change if I may ask?
| I really don't recall having ever felt that Lost Highway was better than Blue Velvet. If the context was a thread about Lynch's more odd movies then certainly I'd say that LH was my favorite.

I might be wrong, it was probably years ago. The context I seem to remember was rather about that you're not too much of a Mulholland Drive fan, giving Lost Highway as a contrary. Doesn't make any difference anyway ;)

QUOTE:QUOTE:So Blue Velvet is supposed to be the more "normal" (compared to Twin Peaks, FWWM, Lost Highway & Mulholland Dr.)?
|
Less surreal, more of a fixed narrative perspective.
I don't really get your question Megs?: It's more like a statement, or a half finished thought?
|
I was just wondering if everyone else believed that Blue Velvet played out more straight forward than Lynch's later films (despite being non-the-less bizarre).

| It's a linear, non-supernatural update on noir, so, yeah, more (or less) straightforward.

I am with Booth (as so often). I think BV is DL’s masterpiece and not because it is the least surreal. The narrative is tight, editing sharp, dialogue funny, characters rounded and engaging, casting good (even Laura Dern is bearable), the length is right (though I want to see the lost scenes). I thought the robin was supposed to be artificial – so it is beguiling but false and unsettling….
