I loved Sheryl as Laura, I thought that she really became Laura, instead of just playing her character. Can you think of any other actress who would be able to play Laura? I honestly can't.

I think Sheryl was perfect! She has the smile of a little girl that masked Lauras sadness in her teenage years. You see that something isn´t right in Laura´s life and that she wasn´t able to become a "normal" adult. As if she would like to go back to her childhood and just be a happy kid and not wanting to know what madness lies ahead of her.

I like Sheryl as Laura. She was a much better Laura than Maddy if you ask me! But now it is impossible for me to imagine anyone else as Laura. That ship has sailed...

I was `done over` last night...
(hardy was done over etc)
I took one in the jaw and had to give them £30 just to get rid of them...
and i had to letv them in because they were gonna smash and break their way in anyway...
you don`t have to do anything wrong....
that`s just life on council estates....etc

I loved her as Laura - still love watching her as Laura. I can't see anyone else doing it. Now here is a question (and I know it's been visted before, but what the heck) - who would make a good Laura nowadays, in a current "re-make" of Twin Peaks??

oh yes,i got `shaken down,yes.... i took one in the jaw and gave em £30... i dealt with it as well as i could of i think .... i just wanted rid of them basically...they thought i was a big drugs dealer or summat,i think.... (thats just what its like on council estates) I`ve brought the police in anyway and am letting them deal with it....

I was wondering the same thing. Even though Sheryl was in her early twenties, she could still pull off being seventeen. I can't think of any twenty-something actress off the top of my head that could do that. I also can't think of any actress that could have the innocence and vulnerability of Laura, that Sheryl could do so well.

Sheryl owns that role. But, recall that Phoebe Augustine & Kimmy Robertson also read for Laura. The beauty of the TP casting is that it was a mix of somewhat forgotten stars, Lynch regulars & mostly unknowns! Sheryl & Kyle were both discovered in Seattle, both trained STAGE thesps. IF they cast a new version, the smartest thing would be to pick fresh NEW faces.

I agree!! It had to be a new facew for a re-production. Not an actress that you have seen do a lot of other characters.
But I don't think it could ever be the same as the original one.

No. Maddy is supposed to be the mousey flipside of wild Laura. Perhaps a bit comical at times, but... her death is one of the scariest, most brutal things to ever be broadcast.

Maddy's death was more shocking and brutal. Laura's death was shocking and brutal also, but it was a film and you knew she was going to die. Maddy's death was the most shocking thing I'd seen on television when it originally aired. still gives me the creeps.

At first when Maddy appeared, I thought it was actually Laura and that the dead Laura was another girl. Did anyone else think this?

Maddy's death was unexpected & unflinchingly portrayed in the cold light of the Palmers' living room, as many viewers were likely witnessing this atrocity from the safety of their own living room(s)...
