Oh, absolutely!  I read the book three times and I have a date for opening night!  But you kind of have to prepare yourself for this stuff for us Hannibal junkies.  Like reading all the books multiple times!

Isn't the title "Somethingorother Rising" extremely overused?

I read the book and liked it, saw the trailers for the movie and they focused totally on the twisted killings, so I probably won't go see the movie unless it falls in my lap.

This will be the Hannibal movie I don't watch, and the Hannibal book I don't read.  The idea of it alone, for me, transforms Thomas Harris into George Lucas.

Very well put, Jaime. I was disgusted enough that I made it all the way through the novel Hannibal, because I can write better than that garbage and that I didn't burn it up before I finished it. Ridley Scott did a decent job with the film and was the rare instance where the film was better than the book. Add this to the list of Smokey's nevers, won't read the book or see the film.

Guys, that doesn't surprise me at all.  Every single time I write about something I like in here, I get put down.  The negativity is keeping others away, but I have as much right to my opinion as you have.

So there!

I am looking forward to see it.

Hannibal, for me, was even bettere than the Silence. But Red Dragon left me pretty satisfied too, because after all it was telling another kind of story. And the performances by Fiennes, Watson,Norton and Keitel are absolutely great. I like the idea of this new film, that it's the first one not taking place in the U.s. The actor playing Hannibal seems quite okay with the role, and I don't miss a single film in wich Gong Li is in. The story seems interesting.

The only Thomas Harris novel I have read was Silence of the Lambs, but only after watching the film and I thought it was badly put together. The ending just lame.... The film was better, way better.

Okay, I did really like Fiennes and Watson in Red Dragon, because they are both remarkable anyway. Norton wasn't bad and Keitel was kind of interesting playing the role of Crawford even though I kept picturing Scott Glenn as he was so good in Silence of the Lambs. There are a lot of deleted scenes with Glenn on the DVD and they are all pretty good, but they cut them out because they wanted to story told from Clarice's POV

I think I'm gonna see it again this night. I almost forgot Mary-Louise Parker and Philip Seymour Hoffman star in it...

This is one more reason to give it a second look.

There's nothing at all wrong with getting enjoyment out of things other people don't seem to like, Annie, in fact it's one of my own perverse pleasures.  But there's nothing wrong with saying "I don't like that" in the context of a friendly conversation, either.

I just watched it and it didn't impress me that much.

But it's not a bad movie.

To tell you the truth, I am most puzzled by Annie's unbridled enthusiasm for anything Hannibal Lecter. I'm not familiar with the books, but most of the movies are plain sick with no redeeming qualities. It took me a long time to see Ridley's Hannibal and it was by far the most disgusting of the bunch.

Well, Erwin, to each his own, as the saying goes.  FYI, the books are far superior to the movies.

Jamie, it just doesn't feel very friendly in here when I comment on many topics.  So, I apologize if you felt like I directed any hostility toward you.

And goodmorningamerica asked me if I liked the movie.  Yes, I LOVED it.  Go see it, REBEL!

My brothers went and saw it this past weekend and said they enjoyed it. Neither of them have read the book, so I couldn't get any book vs. film comparision. Anyone willing to give a review? I'm thinking about seeing it this coming weekend.

Thanks, goodmorningamerica.  I'm sure I'm going out on another limb here, but here's a short review.

Dino DeLaurentis (yes, same bad man of DUNE) reportedly pushed Thomas Harris into writing the screenplay, which TH then turned into a book.  So it's a short read anyway, but even then the movie cuts things out.

The cinematography is absolutely wonderful; so is the score.  Character development is lacking.  Young Hannibal is absolutely gorgeous!  Rumors are he studied Silence of the Lambs over and over to get down the Lecter stare.  It's basically a revenge story, Hannibal killing off all the people who killed his family during WWII (no spoilers.)  Of course, being Hannibal, he gets a bit creative with the killing, so if you had a hard time with the movie Hannibal, this might be worse.  And, being a genius, he is the youngest person to ever be admitted to Medical School in France.  Interesting how he conveniently gets an internship to go over to the US and work in Baltimore...

The end.

Thank you for the review! I didn't get a chance to see it last weekend so I'm hoping to get out this weekend and take a gander.

Which did you prefer, the movie or the book?

That reminds me of the short movie Your Studio and You.

Multi-media includes books too. That's why Universal owns Putnam-Berkeley, with best-selling authors like Robin Cook. Say, Robin, how does it feel to be with Universal?
I love it; it's, uh, probably the best thing that's happened to me.

Here, have you seen my newest book?

Pre-written in screenplay format. Saves a lot of time. Now my book can go directly to the movies, which is a real plus because those executives, who can't read, can go see the cute little talking picture.

You're welcome, Amanda.  Just for the record, when there is a movie made from a book, I ALWAYS like the books better and am somewhat disappointed by the movies, some more than others.

I saw Silence when it opened on Valentine's Day. I was separated from my wife & wanted to not think about her.   So what better way than by seeing a movie about psychopaths?  Enjoyed it immensely, but then started thinking about the film when I got out. Wait---Hannibal Lecter?  He was in that movie Manhunter... that my wife & I saw on our first date!!! Then the tears started. Our 20th anniversay is this Wednesday. Or would've been ,I should say. Maybe I should go see this new movie to commemorate.

Yeah, & we know how much I hate Star Wars. I'll probably go see Factory Girl at the Neptune, the cinema where we got married.

Ehhh, not really one to wallow in woe.  Going to a preview of Black Snake Moan the night before. Is there really anything sad in the cinema right now?  I mean INTENTIONALLY so...
