I bought a Star Trek book Kobayashi Maru and was reading reviews of it on Amazon.com and I stumble across mention of gay Klingons in the book. Interesting.

I watched the ENT episode Fortunate Son last night. It had some cool villians that have appeared in TNG and DS9 - the Nausicaans (creepy looking buggers). But it had Travis freakin' Mayweather whining about his old freighter days and had him interrupting Archer's hails to talk with the annoying freighter captain who was causing all of the ruckus with the Nausicaan prisoner. I like ENT so far, but Travis is a whiny little Ensign!

Just to put in my humble trekkie two cents...I was age 11-14 when the original Star Trek was on the air, so Shatner, Nimoy, et al. are somehow bonded into my brain. For me, those shows will always be Star Trek--whatever followed were spin-offs. Actually, for most of my life I didn't own a t.v. The only other Trek I've caught episodes of are TNG. Now, the original comes off as campy, you just have to chuckle at the bridge...boxes with blinking lights. At the time, it was a new frontier! But all the characters are so lovable. And the relationship between the "triumvirate" Kirk/Spock/Bones was so well-expressed. Too hot/too cold/just right! I always have a good experience watching Star Trek!

In the ENT episode Shuttlepod One, Malcolm in a drunken stupor talks about T'Pol's bum. Score for the writers!

I can now successfully perform a mind meld. Would any of you like to volunteer? I am certified after watching the ENT ep Fusion last night.

Amanda, I have to let you know I have a mancrush on the Ferengi. I watched the ENT episode Acquisition last night. Excellent. Ferengi were played by Jeffrey Combs, Clint Howard, and Ethan Phillips. Very funny episode. They knocked the ENT crew out with a canister full of gas and tried to rob the ship. I love their views on capitalism and their infamous Rules of Acquisition.

One thing that always tickles me is the ship's shields. "Shields are down to 60%. Shields are at 20%. Shields are at 10.7%, blah, blah, blah..." I think this is supposed to ratchet up the tension when the ship is being attacked, but you know they will never be destroyed and aren't even in danger other than the camera moving around jarringly and a random ensign without a speaking part having his console explode and fly across the bridge.

Look, it's trying to think. ;) Of course the shield strength countdown is there to build up suspense. And there have been times when the shields fail completely and the ship is damaged. And then there are those plots where the ship blows up, only to return to an hour before on the timeline due to a subspace anomaly. Trek is good like that. Gives us something to laugh at and yet cuddle with in a moment of pure geek endearment. I always liked it when the shields were decreasing in integrity and engineering would suddenly whip something out of their butt to throw more power to the shields. AKA The Wesley Crusher Maneuver.

Thanks, Miguel Ferrer. What's even funnier about engineering (I've noticed this with Trip a lot on ENT) is when they don't have a part or something else to do repair work or maintenance and then all of a sudden a light bulb will go off and Trip (insert any other Trek engineer or other positions as well) will say "What if we take (insert technobabble) and combine it with (other technobabble)? It may take a few hours, but I think it will give us a shot!"

it's absolutely a lazy writer's tool. notice how few times it is used on DS9 and TOS. DS9 and TOS are the best trek series. this is not coincidence.

I know, man...the Defiant got the SNOT beaten out of it on quite a regular basis, and yet they never really pulled any cheesy death-mitigation tactics with it. I have to admit, I had a crush on the Defiant for a long while because it was just this badassed little battleship that they busted out when Sisko decided he might want to get medieval on someone's ass. And speaking of the Defiant...Thomas Riker. What the FUCK. While the plot device of a dupliate Riker was barely interesting enough for a single ep of TNG...why the hell did he have to resurface on DS9 and steal the Defiant. It was 45 minutes of my life I feel completely cheated out of.

I can't wait to get to Season 3 of ENT. T'Pol needs to lose the awful-looking catsuit. Plus the Xindi arc is beginning and I believe Season 3 from what I've heard is one season long story arc more like DS9. Season 2 (watching right now) just seems disjointed.

The series finale These Are the Voyages gets destroyed by fans. That stinks knowing the last glimpse of ENT is going to blow. Most series finales in Trek (with the exception of maybe VOY) are received well.

I watched Season 3, Episode 5 of ENT Impulse last night. I wasn't aware Trek did a crossover ep with the Resident Evil universe. Zombie Vulcans! Awesome! I kept waiting for Milla Jovovich to show up and save the day...
At the the end of the ep Archer set a course for Raccoon City.

it's really bad, but shran is in it. these things balance out, and it ends up being just "bleh" not a complete punch in the groin

Doesn't Riker always prop a foot up on a console near another officer to give him/her a closeup shot of "the goods"? There are pics of this available online somewhere.

Don't worry about me right now. I am in the Delphic Expanse trying to save the human race from extinction. I will return in 10 episodes.
