nuart, a few questions

1. who was the nerd who stopped partying long enough to take pictures?

Looks a bit like it is taken from a movie, not a regular photograph.

Yesterday was the best day of my life and I have become a better person.

Humbled, I declare that this is exactly what all political threads here should be like.

2. was the sound system any good, could you actually hear music?

3. were you lucky enough to see pete townshend boot abbie hoffman in the ass?

coolsprings, just keep not defending yourself, you're looking more and more reasonable by the hour

I took that photo with a 35-mm still camera from a freeze-framed VCR tape of a Woodstock documentary.  The series of images begin with a wide shot of the hillside that zoom in closer and closer until it ends up on us.  I never saw the cameraman. It's part of the stock footage incorporated by news media on a regular basis when they replay the festival on anniversaries and what-not.  It was one of those rare summers where I didn't take a camera with me.  There's probably a way to get a clearer image but that's all I have.

The sound was SPECTACULAR!!!  I heard every note of music from the early parts after Wavy Gravy and the boring Ravi Shankar (yawn) through to Jimi Hendrix's finale.  Faves:  Joe Cocker, Sly and the Family Stone, the Who, Ten Years After, and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.  Janis, of course.

Not only saw the Pete Townsend-Abbie Hoffman hilarious episode but I was up very close leaning against the speaker tower on the left of the stage.   We were constantly warned against climbing those towers and the wiring was a little electrified unless my memory betrays me.  I always say I was almost electrocuted to the Who that night.

Jordan, the guy behind me to the right is a former boyfriend.   Hahaha, he's a story in himself but I should just say I dodged a bullet when I lost him.

back on topic, it was a good first day. he started feathering the brakes on guantanamo, hamstrung lobbyists as far as access and influence in his administration, and called a lot of mideast leaders to say hello. then retook the oath, just to play it safe (though i hope that's the first and last time he panders to the tinfoil hat crowd)

Guantanamo's closure was in the works already in the Bush administration, but there still doesn't seem to be a plan.  Oh well, there's one full year to come up with that answer.  I vote for Europe as they are accustomed to mainstreaming former terrorist suspects.

Hello, hello, hello.  But okay, one of those Middle Easterners is the soon-to-be-gone PM Olmert who will have to deal with upcoming trials.  A new Israeli PM will be elected soon.  That's not the case with the kings and such who remain 'leaders' until they're assassinated or a son takes their place.  So quaint!

Then there's the executive order to follow Army something guidelines regarding interrogation methods.  At this time, this is kinda of a symbolic gesture as the reference is to waterboarding which I believe was used on three terrorist 'suspects' one of whom was Khalid Shaik Mohammed.  Fine.  Go with the 'new' plan.  There will always be a Jack Bauer in the mix when/if the rubber hits the road.  Plausible deniability and Senate Hearings.  24 has been great so far this season!

Since this is the beginning we are all safe overlaying our own hopes and dreams and fantasies as an Obama template.

I'll be watching!

Yes, but the original footage came from stock news file film.  My parents didn't know I was there but saw me on TV that weekend. I was pretty sure I'd be in the film 'Woodstock' as it seemed there were always cameras around but it's quite likely Martin Scorsese, editor for that docu, cut all my scenes.  I've since forgiven him.

this, this forever. whenever some sleezeball goes "torture should be legal, what about a ticking bomb scenario!?!?" my response is "keep torture illegal as hell, and leave it up to the individual agents whether or not they will break that law." if there's REALLY a scenario where it's so goddam important to torture someone, the agent will do it whether it's legal or not.

Mark this moment.  We are in perfect agreement.  And I have always believed that.  (mostly because of the Israeli intelligence machine which knows effective interrogation does not require torture)

Haha, Nefud, just about everyone feels that way toward Christopher.  I love him and forgive him his wrongheadedness.  I applaud his iconoclasm and appreciate his wordsmith talents.  His is always a voice worth hearing agree or not.

Now I have to go watch that video.  Haven't seen it yet.

Maybe suspected terrorists will get the same tough love under the new administration that Michelle and Barack give one another?

Maybe someone can start an online petition for the deleted scenes from Woodstock too.
