This new Britney Spears song had to have its name changed in the US.

Do you think this is that big of a deal or are parents correct in not wanting their little girls and middle schoolers singing this?

The title will stay the same in the video and overseas.

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this."  -Dale Cooper

Ok... how will changing the title keep 4th graders from singing it on the schoolyard?

Kids gotta learn about sex somewhere.  With girls, it's usually from the dirty jump rope/ hopscotch rhymes and campfire songs we teach eachother. These are, like, folk songs. What's the difference if they hear it on the radio?

But it's Britney Spears, America's virgin princess. A role-model for girls.

Kind of sad when Brittney Spears is not quite as subtle as a Sammy Hagar era Van Halen...  Haven't heard the song, but yeah, I can understand parents of little kids getting miffed if all of a sudden going around singing that shit in church or at grandma's house.  Of course, this is going to guarantee that they download this from the internets at twice the rate...  Bravo, Ms. Britney publicity whore Spears.  You've managed to keep yourself in the spotlight.

I put it in the Other sub-forum because I don't classify Britney Spears as music.

This is obviously a marketing ploy to make her seem controversial and relevant in today's musical landscape.

I didn't realize people listened to her or thought she was attractive anymore.

What's not attractive about her? She's still pretty. As far as her music though...meh. It's never appealed to me, but it still appeals to a broad pop audience. Though I'm with 12r...I'm baffled by the reaction to the song's title and why people get ruffled over kids singing this song. I mean, seriously, do we have to whitewash and cleanse everything? There was worse crap on the radio when I was a kid, and my parents simply did their job and kept me from listening to it while they were around. And of course I still found a way to listen to things, but that's just par for the course.

Kids will learn stuff whether we shelter them or not; it's better to try and impart core values on them and then accept that some stuff will still trickle in than try to completely sanitize their environment. This reminds me of an article I read recently about a study done showing how the ever-increasing trend of teaching abstinence has alarmingly gone hand-in-hand with an increase in STD's amongst teens and young adults because we're not teaching them about the importance of protection if they DO have sex. Well done, society.

*steps up onto soapbox*

for teens - yes

for pre-teens - no

*loses footing and stumbles off of said soapbox*

I totally agree with you guys- just saying that as long as we have laws that certain words are verboten in certain circumstances, spelling out that word rather than saying it doesn't make it somehow better.  It's like yelling "There sapPHIRE" in  a theater...

Although actually, she and her sister are possibly the best walking advertisements for what happens if you have unprotected sex, so maybe it is a good thing...

One could argue that her parents are a better advertisement for what could happen

Brit's marketing plan has all the subtlety of a ginsu knife commercial.

Talentless skanks are incapable of being attractive.

That post was just for you because I knew you would be breathing down my neck.  Audrina from The Hills is a poet and icon of our generation!

EDIT - Booth, did you kidnap Nefud?  Where is that troublemaker from the toy factory?

http://thesuperficial.com/2009/01/britney_spears_abs_have_to_be.php  Her bod is tight again.

I think Womanizer is kind of catchy, too.

Listening to the new one, though... it's really terrible.

" If u seek Amy" reminds me of a fifth grader school bus line: " If You See Kay, tell her I want to." Same mature word sounds like letter bit of cleverness. Brit's is a little more... ah ...what's that word we use around here? Oh yeah, obtuse.

....britney....wow...never thought I would see anything about her on here.

if she became a down to earth, 1950's stereotypical housewife, then that would be shocking.  not the ploys she tries to do "musically."

altho i do find womanizer and slave kind of catchy.

smeds, you missed this one?  http://www.2000revue.com/community/topic.cfm?topicid=2416&page=1

I also vaguely remember an argument I had with someone over whether or not "Toxic" was better than everything Marilyn Manson has written.

I disagreed, but she's a lot finer. Even in her cheeto-scarfing bald slob phase

It appears that I did miss that one...it may have been when I was on a bit of hiatus from the 'net.

I like it when bands redo Britney songs.  I have Travis doing "Hit Me Baby One More Time" and Yael Naim doing Toxic.  I find the remakes much better...

No not at all. Just curious since you post things from perezhilton or tmz or the superficial.

Other blogs I read lead me to TMZ and Perez. I hate both those sites. Perez is a giant douchsicle and TMZ is a computer virus cesspool.

But, back on topic, Britney has got her act together again. It's amazing what sobriety and a change in your love life can do.
