just wondering if  ya have pet dogs here, I for one do! a chocolate lab dog. I was out walking earlier & this beautiful grey lookin dog came up, think he was a pitbull dog, his owner was there. scared me a bit the way the dog came over. the owner said he wont hurt you, but still any dog can. I was scared, stood still, everything was o.k. but I walk all over town here, just don't like dogs running over, my sis was bitten by a dog. my dog is a great puppa, but ya never know if it would bite a person.

the reason why I was mentioning, there was someone in a chevy and stopped me to ask if I was o.k. and mentioned about what type of dog as well. she wanted to make sure I was o.k.

I have a golden lab, named after a certain character Kyle MacLachlan is planning on resurrecting! I know what you mean Rebel about certain dogs approaching you, as you never know how they'll react. Theres a news story over here right now about a 5 year old girl who was mauled by her neighbours dogs. 100 stitches apparently too.

I don't really ever worry too much about them however, I seem to have kinship with the canine.

Probably cause I'm so unreal.

One day I hope to.

I saw this lady walking her dogs yesterday. It was comical. 5 dogs of all different sizes and breeds.

They all wanted to go in different directions sniffing things and the leashes kept getting tangled up. The smallest one was completely turned around and barking at a dog in a yard. The dog at the lead was a good foot taller than all the others and looked very distressed about the whole situation. They were all stumbling over eachother and not making any progress at all.

Growing up, I always wanted a dog but my dad would not let me have one.  The rest of my life, I've been living in dorms and apartments, where I'm not allowed to have one.  Hopefully, someday I'll get a place where I can have a dog.  Dogs really seem to love me, and I always wanted a German Shepard or Doberman.  Every one always tells me how much work it is to take care of a dog, but I don't care.  I don't have any children, so I would take care of it like it was my kid!  Hopefully someday soon!

I don't think I've ever gone more than a period of months without a dog in my life.  Here are some of my recent friends and family dogs featuring the Lovely Lola the Lab (black with purple collar).  Have had cats for decades along with dogs but it is the dog who is truly the best friend.

Yeah, well, this is a DOGS thread people.  Maybe you Feline types want to start your own?  Here's a good bit of comparison between the two.  Having lived with both, I will attest to the veracity of these two fact-faced articles.

The way I see it, dogs had this big meeting, oh, maybe 20,000 years ago.  A huge meeting -- an international convention with delegates from everywhere.  And that's when they decided that humans were the up-and-coming species and dogs were going to throw their lot in with them.  The decision was obviously not unanimous.  The wolves and dingoes walked out in protest.

Cats had an even more negative reaction.  When they heard the news, they called their own meeting -- in Paris, of course -- to denounce canine subservience to the human hyperpower.  (Their manifesto -- La Condition Feline -- can still be found provincial bookstores.)

Cats, it must be said, have not done badly.  Using guile and seduction, they managed to get humans to feed them, thus preserving their superciliousness without going hungry.  A neat trick.  Dogs, being guileless, signed and delivered.  It was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

...or as another means of comparison, the diaries of a typical dog versus that of a typical cat.

12:00 pm - Milk bones! My favorite thing!
1:00 pm - Played in the yard! My favorite thing!
3:00 pm - Wagged my tail! My favorite thing!
5:00 pm - Dinner! My favorite thing!
7:00 pm - Got to play ball! My favorite thing!
8:00 pm - Wow! Watched TV with the people! My favorite thing!

The Cat's Diary

Day 983 of My Captivity
My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet. Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates my capabilities. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. Bastards!

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow, but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released, and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded. The bird must be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now ...

Nuart, that cat diary had me laughing so hard I was crying!

I like dogs, cats, horses, little rodents, lizards, anything but snakes and birds.  God I hate birds!

I used to have the cutest little mutt that looked like a tiny coon dog.  She would always fluff the pillows before laying on them and would steal my comforter at night by rolling herself up like a burrito in it.  I once got a Samoyed from the pound but had to give him to my parents because he was just too big and they had a farm.  He never barked and my parents could leave for days and he would just stay on the farm. (Naturally they left him food and water!)  He would also play catch as in he would toss the ball back to you with his mouth after catching it.  Allie and Frosty, I miss you.  Man, now I'm sad.  I'm going to read that cat diary again.

Yeah, I'm more of a cat person myself ("Cuz I been puttin' out fires---with GASOLINE!!!"), but I am friendly with good dogs. Unfortunately, as a postal carrier, I'm besieged by the obnoxious barking variety of mutt 6 freakin' days a week. Never been bitten, but have been threatened a few times. Once, had a small pack of attack chihuahuas on my heels (I kid you not). There are good & bad dogs (always assume they will bite), but barking, attack cats are not an occupational hazard for me...

I'm pretty sure it's against the official rules of the USPS, Chris, but our long time postman, Felix, always carried with him a tupperware container of dog biscuits.  Every dog on the block looked forward to mail delivery.

Felix just retired.  : (  Lola still dreams of scoring a handful of Milk Bones whenever she hears the sound of that mail truck but alas, the new guy is just not that into dogs and delivers boneless mail each day.

Yeah, doggie treats are officially frowned upon. I just can't stand the constant barking. And leg humping. And face licking. And then there's the annoying things that DOGS do! Ba dum bum!!

Oh.  I forgot what a stickler for officialdom's rules you are, Chris!

Some dogs can be annoying, no doubt.  Like some people.  Some squirrels.  Some turtles.

Every weekend at Costco there are the puppy guide dogs in training that are usually labs.  I have yet to witness the guide cat.

Yeah, I AM quite the rebel... but, being on the bottom of the USPS pole, & needing this job, I think I'll try to keep things on the level. Should dogs be bribed into being "good"? I don't believe so. But we do have a high incidence of bites, not from squirrels, cats, ferrets... guess which animal... I'm just sayin'...

Today is D-Day.... DOG DAY! My 6 yr old 20lb rescue pug mix comes all the way from a high kill shelter in Emporia, Kansas on a C.A.R.E Transport rental van, with many other doggies going who are going to Denver shelters.

His mom went into a nursing home and I am told he is a very good boy.

I have a giant soft pen erected in the living room, with everything he could need while I am at work inside.

For Christmas, he is getting neutered for his health.

Congrats!  They can be a pain in the rear at first, but eventually they basically become a family member and you don't know what you would do without them.  Gotta love their innocence and unconditional love and loyalty.  I like dogs more than humans.

Thanks, peeps. Yeah, dogs are good listeners, minimalists, and always up for an adventure. Susan, that dog values post is great. If only we all be so grateful just to be alive.

So today is D-Day take 2. Can you believe they lost my dog?

He fell asleep at one of the transfers and was left behind with a driver, without tags or paperwork. Those arrived, along with an empty crate with his name on it (!!!)

It took them 20 terrifying minutes to figure that out, while I stood there in the freezing cold like an idiot with my slip lead, after everyone else had gotten their dogs and left.

They were very apologetic and he is supposed to be on another transport this evening, but he's an illegal immigrant now, since I have his paperwork. I called off work, too!

We had a similar (but different) experience with Fluffy the Norwegian Forest Cat, Angel.  Years ago we had our first "Wegie" and he died at the age of 11 months from a congenital heart defect.  The breeder was so upset.  She did some research and discovered that many cats from the same lineage had heart problems.  She promised she'd find us another kitten with no linkage to the original mommy cat and she did.  That cat was from New Joisey.  The day of transfer came.  it was September.  The breeder back east headed off to the airport with little Fluffy in a carrying case.  But she didn't have her drivers license as ID and the FAA rules prohibited her sending the cat without that proof.  She had to go home to retrieve her license.  Fluffy missed his flight.  He had to wait in that little cage until the next scheduled flight to LAX several hours later.  When he finally arrived in Los Angeles, David was there to meet him.  The drive was at least 45 minutes back to our house.  When we finally opened the door of his cage and let him out he ran around like a whirling dervish, scaling walls and furniture doing his freedom dance.  He has been a pretty calm cat now for a decade or so after that initial release of pent up energy.

Good luck with your baby!!!  We are all eagerly awaiting the photos to come.

Oh, man! Vet says he is 12 and too old to get fixed! Wonder why the shelter told me he was 6? Anyway, couldn't be a nicer boy. Follows me everywhere, greets me when I wake up and get home from work by rolling on his back. Energetic little walker. Good in the car and the bath.

Old dogs are awesome.
