I only have a second...so I am just replying to the original thread about the "face of God" thingy.

I asked Al Strobel (the one armed man himself) about this a few years ago at a fest.

He said the "face of God" line was meant to be ambiguios.  No one does actually SPECIFICALLY know what he was seeing, or what God he actually made reference towards...but I actually like that.

It leaves it open to so many interpretations.  Heck, Lynch blends all kinds of culture and faith into Twin Peaks...so the ambiguity is really a great way to go!

yeah i'm bever in favor of things being spelled out of "saw the light" would be even less definitive and not bring up what americans typically think of as "god"

 just seems weird to me

I think the "face of god" line is another instance of "Lodge translation". That is to say, whenever Lodge entities are encountered (be it spirits or places like the Red Room), they appear to dress, act and speak in a form that is about halfway intelligible to "normal people".

"Seeing the face of god" may just be how Cooper filters Mike's words. As has been suggested here, it may allude to a feeling of enlightment in general.

QUOTE:What does Tim Pinkle do for a living? Choreographer? Port-O-Matic seller (he mentions a "machine shop")? Taxidermist (Tim & Tom's)? Nothing really and all those are hobbies?

I heard somewhere that he is a taxidermist, partner in Tim and Tom's Taxi-Dermy, which is a combination of a taxi company and a taxidermist's. Perhaps this is why he offers a stuffed animal to Richard Tremayne, who memorably describes it as the "supreme incongruity".

He seems to do many other activities, though.

Yes, there's a photo of them in the Access Guide and I think Pinkle is described in one of the scripts as "Tim Pinkle from Tim & Tom's Taxidermy". I wonder how big Pete's fish really was...

This question is probably an easy one for you guys to answer for me, I'm still a newbie and I'm probably missing something in the bigger picture..

I can't remember what episode it is, possibly 29 when Earle is talking to Leo and he has the white face/black lips thing going on.. does this mean that he's already been to the Black Lodge and come back?

It confuses me somewhat because later, when Cooper is in there- he sees Earle and Bob takes his soul. Wouldn't this of already of happened, had he visited the Lodge previously?

That's from the beginning of ep.28 and at the end of ep.27 we see BOB coming out in Glastonberry Grove... What I believe is that Earle and BOB met there, that's why he has that face and those teeth (think of Leland's and Laura's), he has "tasted" some of that power he's looking for... Judging from Earle's actions in ep.29 I'd say BOB promised that power, but as we saw he "betrayed" him... We can even go further and say that maybe Earle lured Coop in there because BOB asked him.

ahh I see, so BOB used Earle as a trap to Cooper, knowing he'd go in there after him..

I was watching the Black Lodge scene again today and another thing that makes me go 'hmm' is why BOB says 'you go' 'he's wrong' 'he cant ask for your soul, i will take his'

is this because Earle has asked for Dale's soul in return for Annie's life? it's almost like BOB is doing Coop a favour, telling him to go right before his doppelganger appears.

One theory, especially popular among devotees of the Cooper's Tapes book, is that BOB was after Cooper all along, although (to my knowledge) precisely why that would be the case is never really explained...

Kenneth said they just had the idea to blacken the teeth and whiten the face, but Lynch later used it in FWWM to show as a sign of closeness to the Black Lodge and the world of the dopplegangers.

So it wasn't supposed to be makeup.  Why Lynch slightly changed the makeup is beyond me, though.  He just probably liked it better the other way.  Either way...it is freaky imagery!

It is SO cool that someone brought this up because I actually asked Al Stroble about this during the fest q and a.

He said that he was a little dissapointed that the character was left that way....and it was due to David and Mark being involved with Wild At Heart and Storyville, and not being around during all of the later shooting.  He also said that in that scene, he felt Mike and Jerard were actually going through some kind of strange transformation that would take the character to a totally different kind interpretation.  But sadly....nothing ever was done more with this idea.

Another thing I don't get is why Leland/BOB says "dairy" instead of "diary" when he's trying to incriminate Ben in ep.15... Inhabiting spirits can't spell? Are just plain stupid?

he's trying to point cooper and truman in the right direction without being all "hey i knew about the diary the whole time lolz"

i finally got around to rewatching fwwm this weekend, and i somehow never caught the "i thought you always knew it was me"/"i never knew you thought it was me" exchange. holy shit, am i hearing that right, leland was always aware he was raping laura, and thought she knew!??! that's....odd.

I believe the white face is related to loss of the soul or being possessed. It is probably a literal way to show the wearer as a "mask" of the inhabiting spirit. In the movie, Laura's face briefly changes to this state when she speaks the lines "fire walk with me", likely because she is close to being possessed by BOB.

The last time we see the white face is when Leland enters the red room at the end of the movie. Here he seems to experience an agonizing moment of clarity, a realisation that he is indeed BOB's mask, a puppet under his control.

I'm not entirely sure if Earle's white face fits in with those from FWWM, but if it does, one could say that the white face foreshadows or stands for a loss of the soul in general.

Another thought: WHY are Windom and Leo dressed as a pantomime horse when they capture Major Briggs?

So  the Pink Room scene bar is really in Canada, and not attached to the Roadhouse? It makes more sense, but the bad editing makes it look like there might be a secret entrance Jaques knows about.  Which would mean the Roadhouse literally straddles the US/Canada border, like the Cal-Neva Lodge straddles the California Nevada border, which is stupid, because we know Ben and Jerry have to take a road trip to OEJ's in Canada...

So they drive to Canada, where it's legal for Laura and Donna to drink (and for Audrey to be an escort)  Hmm...

Canada is mentioned on-screen as well. When Laura & Co. enter the Pink Room a voice can be heard saying "Welcome to Canada".

Like I said, obviously it is in Cananda. That part never slipped past me. (Especially since it's subtitled.) How they got there so fast never made sense to me.

Did you really need to see them climbing sloppily in and out of Tommy's jalopy between bars to figure out that they had skipped that part?  It's called a jump cut.

With all of the Deleted Scenes script available online and you are Ms. SuperLynchFan, I am surprised 12, I figured you would be on top of that.

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this."  -Dale Cooper

The jumping man symbolizes the jump cut.
